Private Pig'n'Pussy Weekend

Took the 'Fat Lady' out for a walk again yesterday, with a modicum of success despite trying-out a completely new hunting-spot.

The story is here for those interested.

Marrakai

What velocity would those 650 grain Woodleighs being doing.

Do you think they expand much or perhaps expand just enough to become a sort of wadcutter.

Bakes:
The pics are definitely there, I just checked. If you have a slow connection, you will see this in the corner of the image-box. Be patient: the photo will eventually appear! If you see a red 'X' though, forget it, the picture isn't gonna come!

Mike:
The 650-grainers are only doing 1665 fps by my chrono, but that's about the velocity Geoff MacDonald designed them for. They are catalogued as "577 BP Express" and have a relatively thin jacket to cater for low velocities and comparatively soft vintage barrel-steel.
Having said that, Geoff does now make a tougher 650-grainer for the .577 x 2 3/4 Nitro Express, and I think he has strengthened the BP bullets a little as well. As you might expect, I don't get many recoveries, but one projectile did stop in a boar yesterday, under the fighting-pad on the opposite shoulder. I don't have to weigh it to know its retained 99%, and at damn near 2 calibres wide, would you consider that to be adequate expansion?? Its a perfect example of why I love Woodleigh bullets so much in the big-bores!

Ridgerunner:
There are a number of significant social, cultural, environmental, and pathogenic differences between Australia and the US when it comes to utilization of field-shot game. The wild boar in Oz is a feral pest, and is usually shot to waste, for which no apology is necessary. Although many are harvested for the wild game export industry, those animals are butchered in abbatoirs where TB, brucellosis, spargo, kidney-worm etc can be identified and safely dealt with. The pigs I shot yesterday will by now have provided a hearty repast to the dingos, wedge-tailed eagles, bull-ants, and any other boars remaining in the area! I hope this doesn't offend your sensibilities, its just life!

Marrakai

That bullet looks unreal. I bet pigs and roos go down in a hurry

Are you using black powder to get those velocities or reduced smokeless loads.

Mike
