Break in Rains
      #352298 - 11/04/21 09:29 PM

Hit the local this arvo. Hopeful as there has been a fair bit of activity but alot of rain. Had reached the point and the sun was disappearing fairly quickly. Sign was real fresh and a couple of good wallows on the edge of the swamp. Followed the trails away into the thick grass, expecting too bump one.... Heard a grunt about 40m away. Wind was bad so backed out and came around trying too intersect them as they were on the move . Got a glimpse of one from ontop of a shell midden, no chance for a shot. Closed in and they moved towards me, got Styer too sit and waited at about 7m a black shape appeared. Dropped at the shot , a black and white one ran towards me and I dropped it at my feet. Stoked.
Few pics and recovered the legs for a long walk out in the dark.
Used 9.3x62 250gr TSX's

Nice work Mick.
Keen to get my 9.3x62 up and running.

The break in rain today was not accompanied by a break in the heat! Stinker of a day.

Great looking rifle too.
Are those the Leupold QD mounts?

With animals that small, the 270gr. Speer might work OK, but might as well be a bit soft.
Well done, mic. Damn, I was so looking forward to meeting you, of course as well as all the other blokes there I didn't get to visit with.

I was thinking Mick must be cold! Long sleeves, long pants, then saw Marrakai's comment.

Well done.

Always unusal to think of a dry and a wet. One day I want to experience the Wet for a week or so. Just like I want to experience snow in the middle of winter for a week or four. But obviously not in the NT.

Well done Mick. Some pork roasts for the oven or camp oven.

Longs are for keeping your legs from getting cut to bits, grass seeds after the cane grass has headed are a pain as they dig in to you everywhere.
Do lots of KM's thru water at this time of the year. A croc took a dog a few km's from my. house about 3 weeks ago. Trapped a few days after taking the dog.
Heres a few wet season pics various areas.
Styer on Margin edge of small floodplain

Cycad palm peak wet season, 358 featherweight

wet

Cane grass headed , in as far as can go before boggy area

south alligator near Leichardt water has dropped a coupe of metres

Shady camp flowing

South alligator full

Arron fishing colour change, onto a decent fish

croc blocking a run off, fishing!

Leichhardt pumping , interesting trip out

Magela crossing S bends 1m

Top of red Lilly

Nice rifles, barbecue-sized bush pigs, very smart dog; and a lot of wet indeed, which is not really my cup of tea.
Well done Mick!

Thanks for the Wet season pics Mick. I think I need a snorkel for my cruiser and also would get bogged a couple dozen times per day ...
