Bought a supposedly German Mauser commercial stock.
      #350965 - 01/03/21 08:48 AM

Bought this last week and it arrived yesterday. Suppose to be to a German commercial Mauser. Has the feel of the 60's to me with the white line spacers and checkering. Anyone recognize the style?

Looks familiar but could be from many sources. I am not an expert. Hopefully one recognises what it might be.

Even with the white line spacers I would be happy with that stock. To me it screams 8x57!

I bought it to use for duplication but it's a better stock than I was expecting. Only paid $80 for it.

That I reckon will come up very nicely regardless, treat with a bit of TLC & with an oil finish & you've got yourself a perfect stalking rifle stock. Like John said, a rifle in this stock in the classic 8x57mm would be very hard to overlook!
As for paying $80 for that stock - bargain!

Forgive my opinion but I think it is in the 2x4 style.

Slight hogs back but with pancake cheek piece is OK but from there forward it looks horrendous.
The receiver inletting doesn't look right to me. I'm accustomed to seeing some wood webbing between the trigger area and magazine area.

My opinion of this stock doesn't count though. Only the owners opinion counts. If he is happy with the stock that is all that matters.

Vlad

The Action mortice looks strange to me too, along with the extended rear bottom metal "tang".
The arched comb and cheek piece look right, however. The steel tubing in the rear guard screw hole is correct for mil-spec as well as Husqvarna stocks. It should be removed and action bedded properly, imho.

in my eyes a typical german made 1960s mauser 98 stock, no doubt using a shotgun style trigger guard

the white spacer speaks for itself

It looks to me to have been at least sanded and the pistol grip checkering (badly) refreshed. Seems to be a great stock for your pattern, especially for $80 USD.

Very likely a Zastava M70 "hogback" stock. Try stripping the finish and replacing the finish with a nice hand-rubbed oil finish.

That's the plan Nailcreek. Also might try and do something about that awful checkering.

I very much like that stock for open sights. If the hog back is not to your liking, it can be flattened, if it does not bring the comb too low for your particular dimensions.
