Fields Patent front sight

Help.
I have a Fields Patent rifle in (probably) 450#1 coming in for a referb in a few weeks. In an effort to restore the gun I am going to need to fabricate a new front sight.
Honestly, I'm not too sure about what is correct.

Gun appears similar to this one without the stock reinforcement.

It is a round barrel gun with no rib, and in my searches, I have seen no less than three different possibilities.
The rear sight is a 2 leaf with the first marked 50-150 and the second 200 IIRC.
I did see one on NE but the front sight wasn't clear enough in the pics.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

My Field 500No.2 has an ovate barrel so may not be the same.
The front sight base is dovetailed into the barrel flat and the sight itself dovetailed into that.
The base may be soldered in place - that would make sense.
I can't be certain that it is original though.

The front sight base appears to be soldered on the provided link with a narrow (like a #3 Mk. 1 Enfield) dovetailed blade inserted.
But - it is hard to tell for sure.

I found the pic of your rifle Huvius. Very nice.
I don't want to dovetail something that wasn't but that would at least be appropriate.
I also found another post by TH44 but the shot wasn't clear and that may or may not have been dovetailed as well.
At this point that soldered base might get the nod. It does look like the #3 sight so I may take that approach. Easy enough to make at least and correct as well
From what I hear the gun is a mess (there were belt sanders involved) so anything may be an improvement.
Also going to need a new butt plate, but since it's getting restocked it may get a leather covered pad.

Thanks and cheers
Tom

Hello Tom, following are 3 pictures of the front sight on my August 1872 Alexander Henry single shot. block is soldered onto the barrel.
I think you would be fairly "period correct" with one like this on the Field project.
PM your email if you would like the full resolution pictures.

Hey Mike. Thanks for the pics.
Now that is interesting.
I was looking at something that would have a similar dovetail to the Field patent with a rib as
they also have the front loading dovetail (anybody know the technical name for that?)

I am going to have to shoot the sights in regardless so the lack of windage adjustment shouldn't be an issue.

I have a falling block and a pivoting block that I will photograph for you when I get home.
