Need Conversion from Original german loads
      #34800 - 18/07/05 12:49 PM

I was hoping that someone might be able to help out with 2 rifle loads from German guns. Both loads were taken off the barrels and I would like to find out if there is a close substitute for the powders that they used to use.

The first is from an 8.15x46r which is stamped:
09 Bl.G
11gr
further down the barrel is 7.7m/t 46

#2 is a cape gun in 8x58r Sauer

2g GB.P.
St. MG
7.7mm

I already have loads for both but I am curious to see if there is something more suitable.

I thought I had the cape gun regulated but as soon as the hot weather came that all went out the window.

Thanks

Tom

Here's what I can tell from the marks.

The 8,15x46R has post-1912 style load marks that give no indication of the powder or charge. The "Bl.G 11 gr" mark stands for 'Blei Geschoss 11 grams', or an 11 gram (170 grain) plain lead bullet. the "7,7 m/m 46" indicates the bore (not groove) diameter before rifling and the case length. I'm not sure what the "09" might be without seeing it.

The cape gun has pre-1912 load marks indicating 2 grams of Gewehr Blättchen Pulver (Military flake powder) and a Stahl-mantel Geschoss (steel jacketed bullet), no bullet weight specified, as usual. The 7,7 mark is as above. The German military flake powder was sorta like 3031, but there's really no direct modern substitute.

Regulating these things can drive you batty...

Thanks BPE

The 8.15 is a Buchel Schuetzen and I have been shooting a 208gr slug in it, but subsonic. What I have to do is get another mold cut that would be appropriate for the gun.

The Combo gun was shoting fantastically with 200gr slugs and was actually regulating with the 16ga out to 50 yds! As of last weekend and 90f, that all changed.

The gun had a very bad bore (6" at 25 yds), but I lapped the barrel and it shoots into less than 2" at 100yds with AA4350 and some .303 brass I modified in the lathe.
I can't use factory brass because rifle primers are too hard for consistant ignition, so I cut the brass for pistol primers.
The shotgun barrels are marked 1109 for a date.

Thanks for the translation and the help.
