Absolutely stunning work as a pair, certainly unusual calibers, but hey if that's what the customer wants!

Rereading again, it occurs that the choice of cartridges would not be at all unusual in that the rifles were commissioned by a “Yank” and likely he was most familiar with North American game cartridges of the early smokeless era.
I’d bet that .303 Savage and .405 Winchester ammunition were fairly common at rural general stores in the USA and Canada before WWI,

.303 Savage, .303 British, .30/30 and .32 Rem., but not likely .405.
My buddy's father started shooting moose here with a .25 Stevens single shot. When he bought a surplus '06 1917, his neighbours said: "Pete, why'd you buy that cannon, your .25 kept us in moose meat for years".
.25 RF was getting hard to come by, apparently, by the 50's.

So what is so unusual about a .405 WCF Double Rifle?
Doesn't every rifleman have one?

Moose don't seem particularly hard to kill. At least in my experience and armchair readings. Big, but die relatively easily. At least compared to some other large mammals.
