Griffin and Howe Springfield sporter on Liveauctioneers

Did anyone see this particular auction?

https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/92182806_springfield-armory-1903-30-06-collector-s-rifle-very

I made an early bid but did not follow up. It ended up selling for a pretty strong price.

The auction house described it as a G&H rifle with engraved floorplate but did not post any photographs showing the engraving or any G&H marks on the rifle. But because of the selling price, I'm sure I must have missed something. The sights, barrel and German style cheekpiece are certainly interesting. Perhaps the rifle was the subject of a magazine piece back in the day or had a famous owner. A photo of the engraving would have made all the difference.

Grateful for any insight.

many thanks - everything is clear now.

Very likely Joe Fugger's work.

Not sure doesn't have the feel of Mr Fugger IMO
Here is a link to some of his work Fugger

Here is a link to Mr Kornbrath: Kornbrath

My personnel opinion is that the rifle is not G & H but rather done in Europe. The cheek piece is way wrong. As for the engraving not sure it wasn't also done in Europe and may not be G & H commissioned. I call it a put together rifle. But that's my opinion and not worth debating.

Too bad Michael Petrov is no longer with us, although he might be baffled by this rifle.

Do you know whether the rifle has a G&H barrel number or caliber marking?

Will be interesting to see if anyone else chimes in.

thanks
