Local rangers say the landscape is at breaking point, but efforts to muster the feral herds have been hamstrung by bureaucracy.

Thanks for sharing. I guess he downside is too great to just shoot the buffalo and ask for forgiveness afterwards.

The destroying the environment angle is just to put leverage on the NLC to let them muster. They can shoot them anytime but the owners won't let parks shoot because they want to make money from mustering. There is a few parks now where parks cannot cull buffalo or cattle.

The ABC and Aust Govt are always claiming the buffalo and anything introduced is a menace or destroying the natural environment.

As Claydog would know.

One day they will spend enough dollars and exterminate them all, except for some farm behind wire buffalo. Probably clear out all the endangered banteng as well.

Reminds me of some of the stupid decisions made in RSA where the elephants were denuding the landscape.
There are way too many ele on the southern part of Kruger Park and all that was done was whine and complain about it. The problem animals could have been taken by sport hunters AND generated much revenue and food, but NO, just more "conservationist" bitching and wailing.
