Wonder of wonders; after 5 emails, 2 letters by Post, and 3 phone calls over the space of 4 years......but hey, what’s a few years?
Have been in contact with a Ms. Karli Dunstan at AGL and history with Certificate of Origin for my two Stephen Grant rifles will be coming to me in the Post. £55 for each.....

That's a beautiful double!

Does it have Henry rifling? I have a Grant double which has Alex Henry barrels and action, but was stocked and finished by Grant.

I wonder if your gun has a similar ancestry?

5 groove standard type rifling; guessing in that period it would have been called "Baker" type rifling?
The closeup does make the bore look much worse than it really is. Shoots quite nicely.

Perseverance has paid off.
Many thanks to AGL Historian Karli Dunstan.

I have received the "birth record" for my Stephen Grant .577 Express.
Was originally 2'6" barrels (30") so barrels have been shortened to 26" some time later.
The action came from "Scott, as a 2nd Quality Action" (W&C Scott?) and the rifle was completed at the Grant workshop 67A St. James Street, London in 1873.

Original owner was one Thomas Algernon Smith-Dorrien-Smith
