Ed Harris was also fond of 16 grains of 2400 with cast bullets in all normal size cases ie.,all full size WWII cases. In .30'06 a 180 grain bullet has a velocity of 1438 fps from a 22" barrel. That speed would be good for your hollow points using your alloy for deer hunting but, I would prefer the flat nose running 1700-1900 fps for hunting use. I can tell you from experience that it will kill like triple forked lightning!

Not mine - I've got an adequate supply - but here are 7 boxes of those Hornady 270gr RN for sale over on AH.

Those bullets shoot well in my 1910 MS. I'd buy them if I wasn't casting my own Flat point and hollow points.

I bought the last 3 full and 1 partial boxes (184 projectiles) of the Hornady #3715 that he had.

More food for the M1910 Take Down Model, am glad to get them as they're nearly extinct. Hornady has not listed them for over a decade.

Hornady #3715 have always fed and cycled perfectly through My 1922 proofed M1910 Take Down Model.

I wonder if Hornady will ever offer the .375 270 grain RN again? It's been over a decade since they've listed them.

Bought his box of Barnes Banded Solid (#37512) .375 270 grain RN as well.

Thanks again for the 'tip'.

If Hornady doesn't produce these again, it might be worthwhile to make a swage die to reform spire point bullets.
Fortunately (?) my only 375 Express is a Mauser so any bullet works fine but I have been on the lookout for a good 9.5 Mannlicher too.

That or machine (lathe turn) projectiles of proper profile and 'non lead' composition for the ever increasing regulations that require such for hunting.

I would like to shoot cast bullets in my 9.5 Mannlicher, any thoughts on a mold that would produce bullets that would cycle thru the magazine?

Hi yamoon. This is the mold that I've been using with my 1910. I like the fact that I can cast flat- point or hollow-point. I would be glad to send some of mine your way if you would like to try them in your rifle.

I wouldn't mind having a few of those.

No idea when I'll actually get around to reloading again, though, for the present they'd be added to the 'stash'.

I've never done cast lead in the MS (I have for a '44 Mag. revolver), may be a good alternative for increasingly rare .375 270 RN.

No problem Roth. They work well in my 1910. I'll look at my stash to see what all I have. Would you like a mix of hollow-point and flats?

That would be wonderful! Just a couple samples of each would do nicely.

I'll PM with address.

I have found that you can use the Lee .38-55 Factory Crimp die on the loaded 9.5 x 57 MS rounds by using washers of appropriate thickness as a spacer between the top of the shell holder and the collet crimping sleeve of the die.

BUT I haven’t yet got to the range with my chronograph to find out what difference applying a “factory crimp” will make to velocity.

Anyone yet tried the .375 Swift 250 gr. bullets in their 9.5?

Interesting that the 38-55 Factory Crimp Die worked with a little bit of modification. When I had a Model 1920 I converted an 8x57 Factory crimp die for that cartridge, worked well.

Just for the general body of knowledge on these rifles, my load for the 9.5x57 MS;

I load a 235 grain Speer semi round nose, over 53grains of Benchmark. It gets 2300 fps and (with open sights) two inch groups at 100 metres.

It feeds fine. (But you have to keep the OAL over 3.00 and under 3.050 or it starts getting too long for the mag - I settled on 3.030)

There is an article in the Mannlicher Collectors Association news letter last year listing loads for the 9.5x57. The bullets were 235 gr Speer and the 270 gr Hornaday 3715. The powder was 4895. I have been trying to work up a load with WW ball powder, so far I have exceeded what should be a maximum for the Speer 235 gr but no pressure sign, only about 2150 fps. I have 50 years experience with IMR powders but zero with ball powder, I don’t know how forgiving ball powder is.

Why would one not use IMR4895?

I have used H335 and BLC2 in my 9.3X57 which is a lesser capacity case due to much smaller shoulder. The 9.5x57 is like an AckleyIMP case, in comparison.
If you want my data as a starting point let me know.
BTW, I was running over 2,500fps with all of those bullets at safe pressure in the model 96 Husky. ZERO pressure signs with ZERO case expansion at the web 3/8" above the extractor groove over a sized case. My mic measures to the ten/thousandths.

Mike, I have used 4320 and with the 235 Gr Speer, with mild loads, get 2050fps. That is good for deer, it puts a 3/8" hold theu them.

Use at your own discretion, I have not tried any of them.
Bullet. Powder. Charge. Velocity. Pressure. Energy
285. IMR3031. 42gr. 2040. Speer bullet. 2638
285. IMR4895. 43.5gr 2150. 2800
270. N201. 46gr. 2250. 42K psi. 3030
270. IMR3031. 45gr. 2250. 45K psi. 3030
270. IMR4895. 47.5gr. 2250. 45K psi. 3030
235. N201. 48gr. 2400. 3000
235. IMR3031. 43.5gr. 2200. 2525
235. IMR3031. 47.5gr. 2400. 3000
235. IMR4895. 49.5gr. 2400. 3000

The article is by L. L.
Stewart. He advises starting 6gr less as these LOADS ARE MAXIMUM.
