Unusual combination as well, double set triggers with express sights.

Casper, I have been racking my brain trying to think what the previous owner intended or indeed did do with that perforated strip. Considering they went to the effort although half arsed of attaching it they certainly didn't spend much time making it with holes drilled randomly under a bench drill. None of the holes seem to be tapped either so attaching something to it seems unlikely. Beats me.

that strip looks like it is there to accept soldering and not move probably a 2 part front base and that vis the base part ....Paul

That's exactly how I see it.
Looks like a base had been soldered to it, poorly, then either removed or the poor solder job failed.

Super simple job to make it go away and to restore the finish.

That's the best explanation that I can see.

A slight variation on that speculation:

Suppose the 'strip' is, indeed, a steel spacer (or saddle) soldered to the barrel on which to mount a front scope mounting ring of larger radius than the barrel diameter and that the scope mount was made of aluminum.

That theory could explain the holes as an effort to give purchase to an epoxy joint between aluminum scope ring and steel 'saddle' which eventually failed?

Not to take away from the OP’s thread, but a question on the rifle in Finland. Was a horn trigger guard bow such as that ever offered as an option, or is this likely a custom job? I’m guessing the later, but curious to hear thoughts on it.

themauserkid I noticed this same detail and thought it´s a custom part.
