Easy to cook like this.

I would add some potatoes and not just eat the meat with excessive amounts of butter at the end!

Have regretted not doing this last few trips. But take a roast of venison, beef, feral goat, water buffalo or similar. Make the food as shown or similar. Dig a hole in the ground at lunch time. Throw some coals in the bottom of the hole. Put the camp oven in the hole on the coals. Throw some coals on top of the camp oven. And cover it all with sand ie fill up the hole. The coals keep warm, but are slowed down with little oxygen. Acts like a slow cooker.

Come back at the end of the day, uncover, and serve. Yum. A great dinner.

That was good. I wondered why he didn't eat the veggies(onion and carrots), but likely mush after such a long time.
I didn't 'get' the huge clump of seasoned butter in the eating. I've never tried that, but likely won't.

Yes the guy obviously likes venison with his butter!

The vegetables should not be mush only after two hours. Normal cooking time. As said I would throw in potatoes and make a great meal out of it, with the carrots and onions.

Lovely place to cook, at the waters edge in a Fjord.

The meat was certainly tender. I agree, the veggies would have been OK.
With stews, I usually pressure cook the meat with finely chopped potatoes for thickening + bay leaves + seasoning, THEN after reducing to a simmer, add the veggies.
It's especially good in 2 to 4 hours. Even better the next day, if there is any left over.
Moose stew is to die for. I used to say you can't make a good spaghetti without moose burger.

I cook Venison in a similar manner in a camp oven. I add the garlic as he does wrap in bacon a little bit of oil on the bottom. place roast in sear bacon, add vegetables and half a stubbie of beer. Lid on and colas on lid. Come back latter turn roast add more beer, softer veg, like peas, tomatoes and mushroom etc add various soup powders to thicken liquid, lid back on. Short time latter eat a meal fit for a king. Left overs are left in the camp oven and had cold for lunch or dinner next day, beautiful.

The buried camp oven with some red coals is a good slow cooking method. Retained heat but little oxygen.

He does like his butter flavored with a little meat.
