Kodiak Double, anybody made a set of Round Ball Barrels?
      #341778 - 06/06/20 04:49 AM

As stated, anyone ever built a set of rifled slow twist barrels for there double?

I want to use the stock without modifications.

I have the double 50, but I have several fast twist 50s to practice on.

58 cal wold be the smallest, 62 better. I have 3 62s with forsyth rifling.....That would make a nice medium blaster.

I haven't made a custom barrel for my Pedersoli Kodiak double (originally in. 50 cal, 24in twist, shallow rifling) , but I bought a Pedersoli made. 58 cal double barrels. It's twist rate is 48 in and rifling depth "looks and feels" deeper than their slug guns. I shoot. 562 patched round ball (12thou patch) with up to 120 grains of 3f. Paper plate group size at 100m with both barrels. I believe they also make short. 72 cal barrels with a 75 inch twist which makes it pretty good for patched round balls!

My experience with them wasn't flawless as I got a set of barrels that were painted instead of blued, but it was made right by the seller and the gun shoots good groups. I also have an issue with poi being to the left and low, but I suspect it is my shooting technique rather than the gun. I used a laser to check that barrels are straight and they are.

So I definitely recommend to give them a try if you can buy them from a place that will take it back if you're unhappy. I read online some people had ones that wouldn't regulate.

Actually I just found out it is pretty much impossible to buy .72 cal barrels on their own from Pedersoli. They don't even have a part number for the caliber for some strange reason. It seems the only way to get the 72 cal barrels is to buy their "Safari Express" rifle. It is a pity, because I (as probably many others) already have Kodiak 6 which can take those barrels.

I’d be inclined to buy these and maybe cut them back to the length you like.
If the doubles are like the Pedersoli Gibbs and African Hunter, the barrel channel on the double stock is probably the same regardless of caliber, meaning, the barrel channel for both the .45 and .72 rifles are exactly the same.
Not rifled but a load of fun with patched balls I’d bet!
May drop right in.

Been thinking, OUCH! and I may just try making breech plugs for a set of .58 barrels.

That way they should just be a drop in.

One more thing on my list of things to do!

I have some fast twist .50 blanks to practice on first.
