"Selective" shooting in a buffalo herd

The poster here thinks this is a good example of good selective shooting into a buffalo herd.

What do you think?

he bullet hits the buffalo on the nose, a small puff of dust, and probably travels through the brain. But exits behind the buffalo's head, or neck, a larger puff of dust. The bullet exits into the background. Probably a FMJ. It looks like it is higher than the buffalo immediately behind, perhaps. But LOTS of buffalo in the background. Running after the shot.

Would be pretty amazing if it did not hit another buffalo.

Very poor "selective" shooting. The sort of shot one doesn't take and not just today, but a hundred years ago as well.

Hard to say for sure but looks like the bullet is traveling upwards. If and this is a big if, it is then not a problem if it fly's true. Bullet may of exited the rear of the skull/neck or that puff maybe the bullet hitting the skin but not penetrating out.

The light on the camera lens makes it hard to see clearly exactly what was what. On the surface of it I agree that the animals behind could have been hit so not a good way of doing things. Would have preferred a good soft nose/expanding bullet or Hydro to the heart, defiantly not a conventional solid unless it has a decent sized metplat.

I once shot three bulls out of a small herd in the Selous Game Reserve, in Tanzania. They were lined up facing me, rather than bunched up, but I shot all three in the middle of the chest. Two were one shot kills and the third appeared to be dead on his feet, because he was left standing looking in another direction, as the rest of the herd decamped. One more shot through the shoulder finished the job.

I was using my wildcat .505 SRE (570 grain FMJ bullet at 2150 fps., just like the .500 NE) and none of the bullets exited. I don't think I would have been comfortable trying those shots with a much smaller caliber. A .458 WM, yes, but anything less, no.

I was not shooting off of sticks, as I suspect the hunter in the film clip was. I don't believe in shooting off sticks at dangerous game.
