Really neat little rifle. I bet it handles like a wand!

A friend of mine in Oz has one as well, but with the gargoyles and dragons engraved on it. If I remember correctly, they only made eight or so of these.

.240 flanged magnum is the chambering on this rifle. A cartridge developed by H&H in the 1920's.

COTW give bullet size as .245 as against the .244 of the later .244 H&H Magnum
Hoyem gives both at .244

Thanks. Could a .243 bullet be used in one? If not what?
I suppose a .243 projectile could be bumped up to it.
I imagine this double rifle is beautifully light and superbly balanced?
Now what was the target species was the cartridge designed for? Roe? Fallow?

Performance is nearly identical to the 243 Winchester with the 100 grain bullet at about 2900fps
It would have been a honey in the Highlands deer stalking or on Chital in India.

Superb rifle, very classy. H&H built some exceptionally nice smaller bore double rifles whic always look perfectly proportioned and balanced. I would be pretty happy with that rifle.

I love the rifle. Would make a perfect lighter deer woods rifle. Fantastic as a hog deer rifle. And wonderful for roe, in the days before scopes were common.
I can't see it as a highland red deer rifle though. Unless the double rifle is superbly accurate, shooting in a highlands environment, better for a bolt action or a single shot.
That's one reason why I wonder what such a double rifle and cartridge choice was really wanted for?
For smaller game I think a single shot with open sights makes usually a more accurate choice.
Maybe one reason such rifle/cartridge choices are so rare?
But maybe a Maharajah in India wanted the perfect chital/axis deer double rifle.
