The Semprio has been around for years, but the Dangerous Game series seems reasonably new, and in 458 no less. At least it weighs just under 10 pounds.

G'Day Fella's,

Thanks for sharing CRShelton.

Like the Blaser, the Semprio has a very tight radius pistol grip. In a large caliber, this will be a fine and utterly painful knuckle buster. These funky new designers of these uncomfortable hard kicking large caliber stocks would do well to wake up and pay attention to the old British masters of “proper” stock design like H&H, WR, etc, and open up that pistol grip radius so one can actually comfortably fire the bloody things.

The worst tight grip "knuckle buster" I have experienced was the old Steyr-Mannlicher "Professional" (The one with the plastic stock). In a relatively mild recoiling caliber like 30-06 it would really rap your knuckles with every shot. I had a couple, but the "knuckle busting," plus the "unbreakable" magazine (i.e. very breakable if dropped when filled with ammunition) was reason enough to get rid of both of them.

I wouldn't mind seeing at least a few modern bolt action rifles offered with a totally straight grip.

Every time I see a rifle with a streamlined end cap on the receiver, it just reminds me of a .22 semi from Walmart. The tight-radius grip just reinforces that. I don't think I'm ever destined to buy a new-from-the-store rifle.

Rpeck, very nice rifle. I also have a Jeffery similar to yours with a straight grip, they are lovely rifles.

Stock design aside.

I think in .458 Win Mag it would make a handy buffalo rifle. Being a takedown allows easy transport.

The 3 shot magazine is a little small. It looks like you have to rack the forend forward to access the removable magazine. Slow and difficult in an emergency.

The rifle looks like it is designed for the Euro driven game market but with a redneck flair. Or as the advertising photos show, the North American pump action market.

Have to find a video of it in action.

To operate, the entire barrel in-line

the magazine.
Pulling back the entire barrel in-line

immediate firing.
You are now ready for quick follow up
shots. The design of the in-line system
with its symmetric cocking slide ensures
that the SEMPRIO repeater can be
used by both right and left-handed
shooters.

What a pain in the arse ... needing to move the whole barrel to rack a slide.... some of these modern EU designs are so ridiculous. Whole of barrel pumps, integrated removable triggers and magazines... removable magazines tucked away in difficult to access places inside a slide forend ...

The Verney-Carron designs on the other hand are good. The pump action ie "inline" is a smaller, lighter slide than usual, not the whole forend. And the impact rifl
e is a good alternative if semi autos are not legal.

The Americans don't re-invent new over-tech rifle designs, they just keep re-inventing older and better cartridges with new versions and names so they can sell consumers their one hundredth rifle doing nothing more new than most of the previous 99.

Euros often with a limit of firearms which can be owned seem to be looking for always multi barrel rifles and options. With driven hunting the old Mauser 98's are "too slow", and semi autos are often banned or discouraged. They seem to love ridiculous over engineered plastic pieces of crap nowadays ...

Give me an old Mauser 98 action and a good side by side double both over one hundred and twenty years old and the cartridges almost as old and I am happy ...

I am hopeful that there’s a rifle company out there that will one day come out with a practical design for a large bore pump action. I will be first in line to buy one! I don’t suppose the market will be very large to sell into though for a big bore caliber only, given most DG hunters hunt with bolts or doubles and likely will continue to choose those two action types as long as there is DG hunting. The laws in many DG hunting destinations also may preclude the use of a pump action. This makes the likelihood of getting a practical design big bore pump action to market slim to none, other than modifying existing small bore designs to handle the larger big bore cartridges. Unfortunately, a small bore design with a tight radius and or upright pistol grip that works so well on the range or in the field with the low recoil of the small bore, simply is a poor choice for a caliber that has significant recoil.

Lots of youtube advertising videos, oops I mean reviews. With guys standing at a bench talking about a rifle they don't shoot on the videos .... no .458 Win Mag yet.

BTW when they work one of these rifles with a big scope on it, how aweful the sight picture must be and totally lost. Even with a red dot sight, getting the sight picture back must be slow and annoying.

Ha ha. Good sense of humour reply.

One would need one if shooting this half rifle pump action rifle. Great to see it can handle a .458 Win Mag cartridge. I would like to see a video of one being shot. But for me, the whole front end needing to be pumped ... and especially a scope and all the sights .... can't see how that is an improvement on the traditional pump action where only a slide needs to be pumped, and the sight picture remains unchanged except for recoil and the pump mov't.

A good dangerous game rifle for me, in a pump or semi-auto, should also have the ability to have larger capacity magazines. 3 shots isn't a double would be far faster than a Krieghoff in being reloaded. A great buffalo culling pump action would have a eight to ten shot detachable magazine. And a second one in a belt pouch would enable very quick reloading. The action would have to be strong enough to handle a .458 Win Mag or similar.

JMO.

BTW has anyone got any comments on the Krieghoff claim that the best way to position open sighs is for the front sight a the muzzle as usual, and the rear sight being positioned 11 1/2 inches to the rear of the front sight?

Leaving possibly a very large stretch from the action to the rear sights on longer barrels.

The old rule beginning with long barrelled muzzle loads was a longer sight picture from rear sight to front sight improved open sight accuracy.

I think the Krieghoff methodology is that positioning the sights closer allows the eyes to see the two sights as one picture quicker. And for faster aiming and shooting.

What do you think?

Even in handguns most sites claim a longer barrel length hence longer sight radius helps with accuracy..I would think the same would be true with rifles...along with more weight up front for running shots..

Have never heard the idea of placing sights closer for faster target acquisition..again, when training with handguns in close quarters I prefer 4" barrels..long enough to use the powder in the case..short enough for speed and still provides good accuracy

Krieghoff is "sighting" the rifles for old guys with sight problems who will likely be putting a scope on it, anyway.

Yes - longer sight radius is better, which is one of the reasons aperture sights, positioned at the wrist or over the rear action ring, are more accurate - but still a reason.

Rear aperture sights positioned ahead of the action, or down the barrel in the normal rear sight position on a ML are not as easy to use, nor as accurate as rear mounted apertures, BTW.

The further down the tube open sights are positioned, the easier they are to see & likely more accurate for the fellow with eye problems, but less accurate than more rearward mounted sights with someone with better eye sight.
