re: Westley Richards Bolt Action Mauser Rifle in 425 Magnum Express

Can anyone tell me if this is a realistic price? $11,795.00 (Canadian) is approx. $9,050. (US)

rpeck - that is very nice indeed. Worth the price? I don't know.

93x64 - by clicking on the pictures, you get larger ones - then again on the small box in the right bottom corner, even larger ones, for example the butt plate becomes the same size as my monitor.
Then, on a PC computer hitting the Esc button will take you back to the 'home page' of the url rpeck gave on the rifle.

Quite a nice example, although there are a couple of things to note. It is built on a military action rather than a commercial action, it has been drilled and tapped for a side mount and the front sight is not their patented sight with folding hood but a simple foresight. Still, it is otherwise very nice. The price is a shit load less than a new one but probably a little high considering the things mentioned above.

I saw a Best Quality Westley .425 at Tulsa a couple of shows back for the same price, and in much better condition.

I'm not sure what a good to very good bore is. If it doesn't say perfect, I'd be leery of it.

A minimal crack behind the tang? There's no such thing as a "minimal" crack somewhere in the
hand of a heavy.

I know where there's two. 1 in as good shape and one in almost as good. Both $5000 or less.

Certainly in much better condition although with a moronically large scope.

Agree with the bore comment, that is a typical line use by sellers and doesn't mean shit. Bores that look excellent when viewed with the eye from both ends can have almost no throat and pitting along the bore when viewed with bore scope. Doesn't mean it won't shoot but most of these dealers don't have a bore scope and just write very good for everything without actually checking. Shifty.

In their defense, in my experience rifles from this importer are generally somewhat better than described.

Yes - this is true, I agree. I bought a 9.3x57 from them some years back, with the bore listed as minor pitting, slightly dark but shootable.
After a good scrub, the bore was more clearly described as perfect, no pits & shot 1" to sub 1" with most bullet weights!
My last rifle from them, a 6.5x55 Varberger, listed as very good bore, was also what I would call perfect. No visible throat erosion, no pits - looking like a new barrel.

I think that is on the high side for this particular example.
I had one a while back which I sold and I couldn’t get that much. It was a very nice example with a pristine bore.
The 425 is still a bit of an odd man out and has a limited appeal but of course is totally capable and a super classic cartridge/rifle.
