Mike,

I've fished quite a bit all over Manitoba and you've picked a great spot. Big Northerns all over the place. Hope you have a great trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did any of you have a chance to check out their website? WOW! My only concern is the weather. I was looking at the long range forcast for up there, and they're calling for snow and ice two of the nights, rain of some sort for 4 of the days, and high winds for 2 of them. I guess you can't beat mother nature, just play the hand she deals you.

Have fun. If the weather is bad give that sauna and hot tub a good work out. A nice Bolivar No.2 and a glass of shiraz or port would go well too - not in the sauna, the hot tub.

If you want send me photos when you return and I will post them for you.

There is another address

www.bigsandlakelodge.com

but that address isn't working either. Perhaps the server is down.

Well, the trip isn't off to the greatest start.
We were to leave by plane for the camp this morning at 5am, but the weather at camp makes flying impossible. The cloud ceiling was at 100 feet maximum, and to fly into the camp they need a minimum of 500 feet. Hopefully we'll get out tomorrow morning. Now I'm really looking forward to hooking into one of those monster Northern Pike. It just goes to show, you still can't beat mother nature.

John-we were so far north that here were no Elk in the area. The only mammals up there are Black and Polar Bears, Caribou, Wolves, Fox, and Rabbits. The hot tub was broken, so no pictures of me with a cigar. Besides, the Cuban Monte Cristos were too expensive-$27.00 each. The fishing on the other hand was great. My friend and I both lost several monster Northern Pike that were over 45 inches long. We were required by law to use barbless hooks, and since we were using medium weight tackle(8 lb. test line)weren't able to get any of the huge ones into the boat. My friend did land a 41 incher though. We also caught some very nice Lake Trout that went up to 44 inches, and almost 40 pounds. They were a lot of fun on the medium tackle. The Walleye fishing was the best I've ever experienced! They averaged 3 to 5 pounds, and some went up to 11 pounds. The longest one we landed was 30 inches. The meals were excellent. The day started off at 6:30 AM, with our guide bringing a pot of hot coffee to our cabin. Breakfast was at 7:00, and consisted of hot or cold cereal, eggs, bacon, sausage, hot cakes, juice, tea or coffee, and toast. Lunch was a shore lunch which usually was Walleye filet that you caught that morning, fried potatoes w/ diced onions, pork & beans, corn, and fruit cocktail. Dinner in the evening varied from Chicken Cordon Bleu, to Prime Rib, Steaks, Roast Turkey Breast, Ham Steaks and Pork Chops, Spare Ribs, etc. The only meals that were repeated for dinner, were the steaks and prime rib. The cabins were very comfortable, with each person having a queen size bed, with a firm mattress and clean sheets and down comforter. There was daily maid service as well. Each cabin also had electric baseboard heat in the bathroom, and a wood stove in the bedroom. My friend and I questimate that in the 8 days of fishing, we landed somewhere between 4 and 5 hundred fish. It was, without a doubt, the best fresh water fishing I ever experienced.

Mike i did receive your pics but mate when they are of such a size (around 700kb`s) they are far too difficult to handle and load, try www.xat.com for the free download photo resizer then resend then if you want them posted, please send to Nitro himself as he has a program that will host them for you---oh yes nice fish and a great bear shot too--but way too big for me to handle.

Mike

you can send me the photos again.

You can also modify them as Gryphon suggests using XAT software. It is preferred if you could send to me the photos a little smaller than 700 kb as it does take a long time to reduce each one. Arpund 30 to 70 kb is a good size. Also using 700 kb files won't work on the web as no one will wait for them to download over 20 minutes.

But I will do it for you still as a favour Until I get the photo forum up as a public resource.

I use XAT software to enhance my and others photos, reduce "noise", modify colours, clarify plus reduce in size and memory. It is very easy to use. Use the link below if you want to buy the software (yes I will get a small commission - but I do use it myself so can recommend it. Don't use Gryphon's link - you will keep me poor ).

Or you can download the software for a "trial" period of 30 days - every time you need to use it.

Would it help if when I scanned the photos, I reduced the image size on the scanner instead of scanning them at full size the way I did it originally?

Mike

Send to me the scans you have and I will fix them up using XAT software.

To your question, when you scan photos, most scanning s/w allows the image to be cut or cropped. This will dramatically reduce the size of the "image". The current images usually are A4 in size but also have a lot of white around the photos. Just a helpful hint for future scans.

But send to me your fishing photos as I know lots of people would like to see them, and I would like to as well. I enjoy your photos as they are always of good quality.
