4 bore Roah Gun?
      #333862 - 26/10/19 11:45 PM

Saw this gun at IMA when I attended 10th Victorian Rifle Gathering. I thought I would post it up here as I felt this group might find it interesting. I held it and gave a quick look over. Seemed solid to me. Can't tell you much beyond that. It was an interesting piece.

Looks like some sort of proof or maker’s mark on the rear sight - crowned JH
Don’t know what that one is though.

Selous shot a shortened Dutch 4 bore smoothie on ellie's and noted that he wished he'd never shot one as it gave him a permanent flinch he could not shake no matter what he was shooting.
I wondered if that doubling .600 Nitro helped in any way?

Looks interesting, different to any of mine - weight affects the recoil considerably

No 4-bore here, but a close friend of mine had a 6 bore double caplock ball and shot gun that was reamed to 5 bore by H&H in a refurbish job.
Wil shot only shot in it and ended up winning some turkey shoots.

Lancaster - Many thanks for posting the pics, I have downloaded some of them for my "bore rifles" folder

Clearly a Big Game rifle or Ball Gun with such sights

Would be cool to own.

However would not that butt really hurt when firing it?

Sold within hours of being put up for sale. I was sorely tempted on the way home from the gathering to buy it.

Here is the table full of guns with the Rorah on it.

We did shoot three wall guns at the Gathering this year. One 4 bore was cut down about the length of the Rorah. There was also a 20 mm gun and a full size 4 bore EIC Gun.

I shot the EIC Gun, first shot since it came out of the cache in 2003.

Sorry, I just had to toss this picture in. The Victorian Rifleman Gathering is about shooting old Victorian Rifles. It is not a reenactment or a dress up affair. Some do dress up. This was the 10th Eastcoast US gathering and the celebration of the 5th anniversary of when I proposed to my wife at the 5th gathering, so the wife and I did dress up.

Clothing is replication, beard is real and 6 months in "preparation".

Really good stuff, DD.
NitroX- yes, that butt plate would be ANYTHING but comfortable to shoot.
The hooks are bad enough, but being rounded side to side, narrows the contact surface as well. That is not a good feature.
The hooks means it has to be held in the shoulder/arm pocket. The top hook will bite with a chunky person shooting it. The lower hook will be in the pit. If held out on the arm, terrible pain, as well as if held in the shoulder/pectoral pocket.
