Anna's 2019 bull
      #333420 - 14/10/19 10:54 AM

Well my wife Anna got her bull yesterday. About 3/4 mile from the nearest road and almost 3000 feet higher. A good shot and then the work started. I fired too at another one elk, but missed and got scoped. I held what I thought was the correct amount of hold-over and found I guessed wrong and the shot went right over the top of the elk. We were on real steep ground and I tried to curl around the rifle to keep from slipping down hill, but it didn't work very well for me as you can see from the dripping blood.

The shot was across a large ravine between 2 crests, with us being near the top of one and the elk being only about 25 yards below the crest of the other. Anna got on a large rock and shot from prone. I was on the slope below her about 10 yards, and in the snow.

It took 3 of us 7.5 hours to get the elk down to that road. We had to make 2 trips. The slope is steep enough to make going up empty easier then coming down loaded. The pic of Anna with the head and antlers was taken on one of the flattest places we could get to, about 1/3 the way down. The others were taken where the bull fell, and that was not too steep, thank God. We all had to wrap the loads and roll them off the steepest parts and then follow them down on all fours in 2 different places. VERY steep with loose rock covered in about 4" of snow.

What fun!

Anna earned every single ounce of this bull

That is one happy looking women in the third photo. She has been blessed and you are a fortunate man that she selected you for her husband.

Congratulations to you both.

Good one Steve, you must be pretty proud of your wife, she certainly looks pretty happy with her trophy.

Well done to the szihn clan!
You might have missed yours mate & got a good smack about the noggin' for missing; but hey, there's meat in the freezer tonight so who's worrying - not you guys!
Will all be sore climbing up & down that slope, let alone from carting that bull down!
Well done indeed

Full marks to Anna. Not only on making a great shot but in lugging the meat and head out as well.
Steve, better shot next time and you can keep that sort of steepness.

Szihn, congratulations to Anna for her bull and to you for making this happen; which calibre/ammunition did she used and what was the shooting distance?

Great Job Steve and Anna..

I read once that the higher percentage of missed shots were HIGH versus low... one more in that category I guess huh?? Oh well, its early, you probably missed on purpose as you didn't want your season done yet..

High misses - yeah, tell me about it.

When I first moved to PG from Smithers, I built up a .257 Robert's IMP. I missed the first 3 or 4 coyotes I shot at, with it, high, of course. I had been shooting a .458 for a number of years and just couldn't stop from holding sight above the coyotes when they were a mere 200 to 300yards distant.

Well no............but after the pack out I have to admit, it was the only time I have ever missed and considered it to be a blessing. When were were done I thought "that would be only 1/2 of the work if I'd made that hit."

I think that miss was a blessing in disguise.

I think that beautiful hunting partner is the blessing!

Your old friend enjoyed seeing your photos.
He especially liked the brow modification.

Hello Steve and Anna,

"Waidmannsheil" to Anna for her impressive stag!

My girlfriend has more success than me nearly every time we go hunting together!
I am in charge of cleaning and sighting in the rifles and producing ammunition, clearing the "hochsitz" and cutting grass and brush and twigs in the shooting direction, and finally, after a 2 hour wait-for-game at my hochsitz I hear "boom" coming from her hochsitz-direction.
Normally I then have to admire her nice roe buck and answer the question:
"I had a second one in my reticle, should I have shot it also? I didnīt hear a shot from you, shall I get a second one tomorrow?"

Hunting with girls is only sometimes really fun!

best regards
Rolf

Thanks guys.
The "modification" is not as bad as it looks, but it was not my brow. It's center of the nose. I have had worse when I was fighting a lot, but I think it's not as 'honorable" when you do it to yourself.

I shot from a very strained position. A "slipping-down-a-snowy-hill-in-an-attempt-to-get-prone position" and the 9.3X62 had enough recoil to push me out of the way until the rearward movement was stopped...........by my nose.

Don Q. probably ruptured himself laughing.

Oh well, there are more elk to hunt. I can shoot a bull until the end of October and if I don't get one I then can use the same tag as a cow tag until mid December. I have 2 more deer to get and the elk and I am helping 3 other friends get one elk, one buck Antelope, 2 doe antelope, 4 doe white tail deer and I may get 2 more W.T.does deer also to donate to some needy people at one of the churches I go to on occasion, who are wishing they had some winter meat. If God blesses me with that last 2 tags I'll feed those people too and I know they would LOVE to have the meat over the hard winter months to come.

But yes mate you are the thorough gentleman, we can all aspire to yours & Szihn's chivalry!
