Conetrol Scope Mounts
      #329990 - 10/07/19 04:23 PM

Does anyone use, or has used Conetrol scope mounts?

I used a set once upon a time, I had a Winchester Featherweight M70 in .30-06 and thought these mounts suited it. Ended up selling the Winchester, worst accuracy I have ever had from any firearm, 6 inch "groups"" at 100 yds. Even after glass bedding. Sold it to off to some unfortunate person. But took a huge discount on what I paid for it. POS rifle. Never bought a Winchester since.

Back to Conetrol. Lovely mounts. Once used on a lot of custom rifles.

Saw Joel's comment on another thread about some mounts looking out of place and thought about how lovely Conetrols look, but never see them nowadays???? Why ????

Were certainly very streamlined rings, I fitted a few, a little fiddly to get right, big downside was that the early ones were not QD but I understand they did make some that had a retaining screw to keep them attached to the scope if removing from the rifle, I never saw any of these though.

I wish they would make a true QD base version. With the streamlined rings, and say a QD lever. If done well would be very nice.

Yes the rings were a bit fiddly to fit.

I had a set and found them to be very good. They were designed and manufactured by one person who may well have passed on or be well and truly retired by now.

They still have a website. And even were giving notice they would be closed one weekend in July.

Had several sets ,some I bought direct from the maker ,fiddly to install, not something you want to do after a beer or several coffees ,gave them to a thief with the gift of the gab called Jackson, who was supposed to reimburse me with a set of 330 win dies and never did ,went to Talley Q/D mounts now ,as I would rather have Q/D mounts on all my rifles

I have them on a couple of rifles I use regularly, Good rings, fiddly to set up but once fit lovely streamlined ring. Also I tend to not mess with scopes. Once mounted they stay put unless I have a darn good reason to change.

G'Day Fella's,

NitroX, I have fitted a few sets of these, years ago now.
I also still have two pair of them, set up on rifles (Tikka, LSA 55,.222 & Brno, Model 1, .22LR (same 5/8"/16mm Dovetail)).
As Eagle 27 mentioned, these one's have the tiny little stainless steel, retention screw on them.
Really nice looking rings, and I have never had any problems with them, on the above mentioned rifles.

I have since moved onto "Form Follows Function", with regard to so many firearm accessories.
Talley and Warne/Picatinny type scope rings, for my hunting rifles these days.

Hope that helps

D'oh!

I wonder if a reason fewer people use them is more people buy ugly plastic stocked, badly blued or matt blued rifles? Instead of glossy blued, lovely walnut classic rifles?

I really wish they had a true QD version. But when a QD version is not needed, I still like them. Aesthetics is important. Ha ha, even though I don't have any fitted currently. I should put them on my .30-06, if not a set of QDs, if I re-fit open sights to it.

G'Day Fella's,

I agree NitroX, tastes are like any Fashion item, they change.
But then, Conetrol also used to have their rings and bases available, in a bead blasted, matte finish as well ........
I had a pair on a .308 Win, semi-auto rifle...... FJWH!
