A good find

My soon to be son in law has just passed his hunter's exam and will start to hunt this coming season. I found him his first gun : a 12 ga Webley & Scott, 40 years old, NIB and unfired :thumb:

I wish my father in law had done the same for me...

Now, do you have another daughter...one who likes older men???

Andre, being from Belgium is it possible for you to tell me some background on the maker of my 9,3X74R sidelock o/u. The maker was N. Lajot, and the gun dates to 1930.

N. Lajot was a reknowned Liège gunmaker of the 1st. half of the 20th century. His production of fine s/s - o/u doubles (shotguns & rifles) was highly esteemed and I don't believe he ever made anything but handmade top grade guns. I take it that your sidelock 9,3x74R must be representative of his trade.

Thanks for the comments on Lajot. The gun is a best quality sidelock of the first order. I have never seen better wood to metal fit. I have a second set of barrels for the gun in Bohler steel and 16/8x57IR; the 9,3 set are Blindee. The engraving is classic of the late 20s and early 30s...floral with cupids and nymphs...It can be seen in the classified section here.

I believe that the gun was taken by a German officer as they went through Belgium, and the combo barrels were done back in Germany, as they appear to be a bit newer than the 9,3 set. Although very well done, the workmanship is not as good as the original Blindees. The combo set has a Goertz 4X scope in claw mounts that was a WWI sniper scope, from the markings.

I saw your pics and they look like what I expected, typical Lajot best quality. Your asking price is right too. It must be heartbreaking to part with a gun like that.
