Kurz Mauser - A sleeping Beauty
      #325148 - 25/02/19 02:06 PM

On the back of Joels wonderful Kurz project I thought I would share my most recent acquisition

This rifle has an interesting History coupled with, and linked to a decorated and well respected Australian who regretably passed away 2 years ago at the age of 91.
Built 1924/5, it is a " full size" Kurz with 23.5 inch barrel and heavier barrel profile chambered for the neat little 250/3000.
All original finish is present , both to wood an metal and still with a lot of vibrant nitate blueing evident.
More on the history later as Im waiting on verification on particular parts of its History.
I do hope you enjoy the photos.

Best
Eric

Every small part has matching numbers, without exception.

Regretabley the toe of the Mauser butt plate is broken away just below the bottom screw. I will have to try and greft a piece in.

Wood is above average quality and figure, even for an ealier example such as this.

Now, that is nice.

Question, though. At that time, would it not have been rust-blued?

Daryl

Correct, that is the original rust finish...maybe some light reflection in the photos.

Beautiful.

Rust-blue is the original finish on the Mauser sporters?

But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I am?

Until the early 1930s all Mauser, Oberndorf, rifles were slow rust blued. Only then hot dip bluing was introduced by the factory. But I have seen several 1930s Mauser sporters with hot blued actions and rust blued barrels.

Superb original condition, a joy to behold !
The first factory scoped commercial Mauser I ever see with a modified bolt handle for the Zielvier.
Thanks for showing this beauty.

Thank you Joel

I have been informed of a couple of other K Models with the same alteration to the shank...both early examples as well
Not necessary to clear the high mounted Zielvier, perhaps they were experimenting.

Lovely rifle. The only Mauser repeter which in my book that can compete with a doublerifle in handling, charm and aesthetics….

Absolute ripper Eric, great condition as well. Those Kurtz Mausers look proportionately perfect and in a great caliber as well. Nice scope as well and interesting bolt handle. Good on you.

Matt.
