There are quite a few 303 doubles around.

Just depends on what you want to spend.

Holland, Rigby made some, I have also seen Andrews.

Mickey has one he bought in Australia - can't remeber the name of the maker.

Build one - I wouldn't bother - buy a 30.06 double or a 9.3 x 74R.
Much more practical, a hell of a lot less hassle and you can have it now instead
of waiting a year !!!

Watson Bros 303. An '06 or 9.3x74R are plenty good shoot em irons too . Small Bore Doubles are usually quite a bit less expensive than Big Bores.

You don't want to know! The price if Mick answers will make you sick.

If you want a nice double in a lighter calibre try a new Merkel, Krieghoff or Chapuis. Many of these can be had in a 6.5mm, 7mm, .30, 8mm or a 9.3mm for probably 1/4 to 1/6 what this one might cost you.

Plan for around A$5000 to A$9000 for these, new. The lower range only if you are lucky or know someone.

Also can be had with scope mount fittings if you want a scope.

303

I don't want John to puke on his keyboard so I'll just say that his AU$4-9k is correct. I bought it from a fellow I bumped into in Sydney at a BGRC shoot.

500Nitro, he wasn't a member.

Personally I think that a 9.3x74R would be the light double I would buy if I was just going to have one. It is light and easy to carry and has plenty of poop for almost anything. Mine weighs 6.5 lbs. without scope and 7.75 with.

By the way, AdamTaylor got me some 303 ammo with 215 grn. bullets so I'm off to the gun range to see how it shoots.

But Mick, you wouldn't be selling it for that, would you?

If so, I'm first in line.

Well know John, you have to remember that thhe Aussie Dollar was only worth about 17 cents US then.

What with inflation, handling and fondling, shipping and such the price is only going to go up. Just send me a check, I'll fill in the amount, and along with the airplane ticket you will also need to send I'll bring it over.

Do you want the original case and all the accesories too?

mickey,

I had the opportunity to buy the rifle before you but passed on it
as I went for a Rigby 450 Nitro, cased with accessories instead.

That is not to say the 303 wasn't a good pick up, it was and after you bought
it did the flack fly around here !!! I just made the point to a few people that the
gun had been for sale AND displayed in Melbourne and Sydney and no one bought
it so it was there fault.

Glad to see you still have it. The forum reminds me I should get off my backside
and get some ofthe guns out of storage and have a shot out of them a bit more !!!

500Nitro

I finally got around to shooting it today and I absolutely love it. AdamTayler gave me some 215grain factory loads as they do not make them around here anymore, or in Canada. I only shot 4 on target but at 50 yards the right barrel shot two into .5 inch and the left into .75 inch. The group was exactly 1 inch high and perfectly horizontal.

Only 6 inches apart.

The rifle kicks like my .223 Ruger and is a pleasure to handle. I chronographed two rounds from each barrel and got between 2029 and 2105. Both barrels seem to be shooting about the same velocity. The Cartrifdges are probably 40 years old.

Wouldn't it be a blast to shoot some walk up 'roos or pigs with it.

It is. It has a steel buttplate but I am seriously thinking of a recoil pad. I have a slip on leather one that I use but it screws with the length of pull. I love to carry it and shooting at game is not a problem. It is really not as bad as one would think.

Mickey,

Are you going to fire those older 215's that Jack found to see if they regulate better? It would be great to christen it on a mulie around Billie's Pond in November.

Adam

It will be shooting much better by then. the one's Jack found are all reloads. I won't shoot them but I will pull the bullets and reload them.

I think a Mulie would be appropriate.

Thanks againa for the Ammo.
