Matt, there are no words that would do justice to that pair. I am afraid that I would do damage to them by taking them into the thickets of Africa , they are real beauties to be admired.

Thank you for sharing, Waidmannsheil. They are indeed works of art, but I would say 'too' beautiful for my personal taste. My own perception of rifles is almost as the same as of women: if I was not already married I would much more fancy sharing my life with an attractive but not glittering city or country girl of common values than taking the risk of pairing with Miss Universe or any of her kind! Very well put Louis, and I agree. While those rifles are amazing in every way and incredible gun makers art, I would be surprised if they actually got much use. I have to confess that I used to be drawn to guns like that years ago but now I much prefer a classic working rifle such as a Rigby, H&H, Jeffery, Mannlicher Shoenauer or an Original Mauser Sporter. Blued steel and walnut do it for me. I do like a bit of engraving, normally the floor plate and the trigger guard but not always. Some tasteful; scroll and a nice border or a small game scene can look very nice.
Still, those guns are incredible and they would be great to see in real.

So, perhaps this Krieghoff is a bit 'over the top'?

Lovely pair of bolt guns indeed. I do not care for those painted runs

Actually, it's enamel (powdered glass that is applied and fired to a glaze, then polished) and gold.
Some are quite extremely decorated, some even have jewels set in them.
This link is to an interesting Krieghoff catalog with everything from competition shotguns to some rather rococo - meets - moderne examples of the engraver's and jeweler's art on pages 53 - 62: Krieghoff
Enamel on silver.
Here's their "Hunting Collection" including doubles, drillings, single shots, repeaters... . Krieghoff Hunting

Rothhammer, you got it right, superb pieces of craftsmanship and works of art but not my taste; I reckon this is very personal and can easily admit that other people would love them. Louis

Drag those guns through the bush and die a happy man. Don’t agree with the belief that beauty can’t be touched.

Beauty can be touched.. Women yes, guns like this no... IMHO
Difference between touching and dragging them through the bush...

Surely an obliging elephant or buffalo, as illustrated on the floor plates, would imply keel over and die at the sight of such weapons, without the bores having to be profaned by a shot.

Not actually a Mauser but from the same site......another beauty to behold, or hold and maybe not drag through the scrub ( tho' by the looks of the stock, someone has )...

.....I have a thing for Krag's, even though I doubt I could get one here in Australia...
