Thank you Daryl S and cordite!

I was thinking this wonderful Sako could be have a magazine for six cartridges, plus one in the chamber. May be...
Great and very pretty rifle, anyway!!!

It might be rare in the USA but that combo is very common in europe. If your reloading stick with a 286 grain projectile. The Woodleigh RNSP works well.

RWS and Norma make great factory ammo.

It is not a magnum and earnt its reputation in Africa in the first half of the 20th century clearing vast tracks of future farming land (of plains game) with conventional cup and core projectiles. I had very little success with anything heavier opening up at impact velocities.

I was able to take game in Africa out to 260 paces but that is NOT what this cartridge is designed to do.

You will love it in that Sako.

Hello tophet1,

Thanks for the reply.

Its not the caliber that's rare here in the US, its the Sako Safari rifle chambered in that caliber. Only 6 are known.

Could it be that the 9.3x62 is to the 375 (ish) and even 416 calibres what the 7x57 and 308 win are to the 7mm and 308 / 300 / 8mm calibres.

ie it does every thing the bigger cartridges do, but without all the fuss, bother, cost etc.

I shot a friends 9.3x62 Blaser R8. He never told me it was the 9.3 barrel - just thought it was his normal 308 - perhaps with a bigger bullet - he handed it to me loaded but uncocked.

Ha!

A hen's tooth if there ever was one!

Great find.

I have two AV's. A .375 H&H I bought in the 80's before moving to South Africa and then, one I'd been looking for and finally found a few years ago, a 6.5x55. Both Left-handers. What I really wanted back when I bought my .375 was a 9.3x62 but now Southpaw versions could be found.

That Safari is a dandy. Wish they had made them with the bolt on the right...left...side!

My 9.3x62 is a CZ that started as a 6.5x55 then was rebarrelled and now is almost a "pistol", 16 1/4 inch barrel with the stock reduced in size and length with the help of a hoof rasp and sandpaper. My bear gun.

I just ordered a Sauer 100 in 9.3x62...will be interested to see what that turns out to be.

Hello 9.3x57

Thanks for the reply.

Here are my 3 Sako Safari rifles. The 338 Win Mag has some awesome wood. I'm still looking for a 375 H&H.

I just saw this on Guns International and thought of you. Seems like a pretty cool addition to your collection of rare Sako rifles.
