Actually that is not quite correct. If you have a clock or watch made by a famous maker than originality of parts increases the price dramatically. A Patek Phillipe for example is worth a lot more if no parts have been replaced which Patek themselves can tell you after inspecting.

I was actually suggesting a replacement spring to use instead of the original so the Curl could shoot the gun.

Waidmannsheil.

Matt,

Wouldn't it have been glorious to have shot this carbine in one of the events at the BGRC on August 5? Great seeing you there.

Yes Curl, I agree. I am not a handgun person generally although I do have an interest in Luger's, Mauser Broomhandle's and Webley revolvers, in other words the sort of side arms that used to be carried on Safari.
We have talked about including a handgun event for just such weapons however the legalities and Police requirements here in Victoria mean that setting up such events are just too difficult. Maybe in the future.

Yes, we had a good shoot that day with perfect weather. We all enjoyed having you and your wife as guests, hopefully you both can make it again one day.

Matt.

Matt,

You ought to see my Broomhandle Mauser! Almost like new. I guess I should photograph it and post here on NE.com.

Sounds like an idea for new BGRC events,"Classic Handguns of the Safari".

To add to the Howdah competition if they ever get held.

Bell had a Broomhandle Mauser. Numerous Webleys would have been floating around. A few six guns of the Yankee cowboys white hunters. A {arabellum would not be amiss.

Perhaps the "Karamojo Shoot", either shoot six zebra rapid fire or six Karamojo warriors rapid fire.

BTW Curl, a dumb questiion, is your carbine in 9mm Parabellum or 7.65 mm or ? I couldn't see if mentioned what the chambering is. I noted also a bottle neck case sitting in the pistol case.

John,

All the 1902 Parabellum Carbines were chambered in 7.65mm. It was only after WW1, during the Weimar Republic that some carbines were made in 9mm. These are referred to as 1920 Carbines.

The 1902 Carbines are built on the Old Model pattern. The 1920 Carbines are built on the New Model pattern.

Clear as mud, unless you study Lugers.

There's another point to be aware of also. The standard 7.65mm round would not run the Luger Carbine. There was a special, higher powered round that was used for the Carbine. It had the same dimensions as the standard round, but was much higher powered so it would operate the heavier mechanism.

I don't have any of the original Carbine ammo, but I suppose it would be no problem to load the equivalent.

I haven't shot my Carbine. Don't plan to.
