Distinguishing military from commercial action
      #316370 - 15/05/18 01:29 AM

Can anyone tell whether this is a military or commercial action?

Note that there are some other photos beneath this one. They will appear if you click the spots marked 'image to follow'.

Thanks

IMHO a highly reworked ex-military action, scrubbed of all markings. Aftermarket modern bottom metal, aftermarket M70-type bolt shroud and safety. Bolt handle altered to low profile with a giant knob added. Non –standard British scope mount bases. Nicely executed, but I like neither bolt handle nor buttstock shape.

I am mystified by the checkering pattern on the forend. That part, at least, is poorly executed.

The big knob is, I think, a rubber ball pushed over the steel knob.

If you blow up the photo the ball looks leather.

Gents, thanks for the responses. I guess it must be military since most people wouldn't grind off original Mauser markings.

I don't care for the high comb stock or the golf ball sized bolt handle myself, but have always wanted a McKay Brown piece of some kind. Unfortunately this one is probably not importable.
