Wet season with the 404
      #312263 - 12/02/18 07:53 PM

Done a couple of trips with the 404. Got real lucky at one of my pig spots. Found a young bull asleep in a wallow Ideal for trying the 404 out. Poor angle so tried to improve but only offered a shot angling in from behind thru the gut. Burst out of the wallow at the shot with plenty of blood flowing. gave him two more in the shoulder when he stopped and he was down.
Pretty happy with the 350's. 400's would be my preferred weight for buff.
Few photos then a big effort to carry the meat out.

Went to the local swamp for a look around fresh pig sign so followed their tracks , long process but eventually paid of with. a small sqeal from a sow giving their position away. Well sort of it took me around 20minutes to find them in the log grass/ thick stuff. 15m shot off hand over kill but very happy heres a pic cheers Mick

Well done. It is so green! Never seen the Top End during the Wet. Oneday I want to visit especially during the Wet to see the difference.

I don't envy you the butchering of a buffalo bull AND carry out in hot and humid conditions.

That would have certainly been a big effort to get the meat out Mick!
Humidity is a real killer up your way!
At least you're getting rain - nothing much if any in the bottom end of NQ.
Dry as a wooden God here!

Mick, good effort there. Glad to seethe 404 doing what it was meant to do.

2 things. 1) I envy you the rifle. 2) I don't envy you the butchering and carry out in the humidity up there

I do not enjoy hunting in that weather. There was a time it did not bother me - it does now.

Im liking the 404. Walked the margin of a swamp last Friday arvo. Plenty of water around. found a reasonably fresh boar digging , saw a few snakes and a scrub hen. hadn't gone 40m past the scrub hen and spotted a tom cat. 16m shot absolutely flattened him.......
350gr woodie. Turned a sh#t day into a good day. Heres a couple of pics cheers Mick

I'm glad you use enough gun for those things, Mick.

They can be a handful when wounded!
