Thoughts/comments about this stock!?
      #31058 - 14/05/05 01:16 AM

What do you guys think? My mate wants one for his .300WSM, I am a bit undecided on it, interesting design though!

Each to their own but definitely not for me.

Would you stock a .300 H&H or a .404 in one? No way.

Might suit one of the Ultra-Magnum thing-a-bees though. Probably does suit a WSM too!

That dished cheekpiece can be rough if used on a gun with heavy recoil. Dave

I thought so too! It reminds me of those wierd fantasy knives that guys make but are good for nothing!
I can't see it being very confortable.

I was trying to get him to go with a conventional type like this...

Or this...

I posted this stock up to do a little experiment, everyone I know (that is not associated with this forum) loves the weird one in the first post! Why do you think there is now this trend towards 'cool'(used loosely!) looking rifles even if it brings a reduction in functionality? I told my mates that this stock would not be very comfortable but they don't care as it looks 'cool'!

p.s I hate lamimnates, gimme a nice piece of hardwood!

The cheekpiece on that rifle at the top of the thread is a worry.

My .30-06 Parker Hale "Delux" has a Monte Carlo stock like the last one you pot except it is not laminate, it is walnut. They were once popular and when I was 15 I thought Monte Carlo stocks were cool. I have been thinking it is time to get it restocked but it is an extremely accurate rifle right now. I will keep the Monte Carlo stock so I can change "dresses" if I ever want to again.

What's that stock called, "The Flashback"?

Stocks of that type used to be popular for metallic silhouette shooting in the USA.

Those things aren't comfortable unless you always shoot while standing and always use a scope.

The top one is ghastly, the thumbhole pretty crook and with some modification (a lot) I could live with the bottom one. Once the Monte Carlo was gone, the Rosewood tip and the white line spacers removed it would be OK.

Shades of Roy Weatherby! There isn't enough forend to hang onto, the back of the cheekpiece will take off your ear, in any kind of recoil the thumb hole will break your thumb and the colors will scare off every animal in a Hollywood movie lot. Other than that, 'swunnerful!

How do you clean it from the breech? Looks like that cheekpiece might stick up too high to run a cleaning rod in from the rear. Maybe not????

Appropriate response, Tightloop.

The first stock may be one of the few times an hour with the belt sander, some bondo and a can of black spray paint could make an improvement.

either one of the two thumbholed stocks you display would be a big hit and a fine improvement in any trailer park!

man ,,, those are just butt ugly!

I hope you can talk him out of using either of them.
