44DE --new 44 mag cartridge
      #309845 - 03/01/18 01:35 AM

Saw last evening on the GUNS AND AMMO show ..Desert Eagle handguns will be offered in a new 44 mag cartridge that, per the article and accuracy of my memory, will fire a 210gr bullet at roughly 1850fps...240 gr bullet at 1700fps...stated it is roughly 300 fps faster, all things being equal to the standard 44 mag. cartridge...

Not sure if it was a 50AE necked down or??? Will post more info as I find it..

Perhaps this is old news, but was the season opener for the show, and first I have seen or read about it..

Perhaps a necked .500 or .460?

I would guess it’s a necked 50AE as well. Should be interesting, every time I think I need to buy a Desert Eagle I handle one and pass. The feel and ergonomics are terrible for me.

I found the 1911 was easy to shoot, but still prefer model 29's with slimmed grips.
The newer semi guns, with wider grips, I just don't like them, even though I have what some people consider out-sized hands.

I watched it again this evening... most of the info I had put out was correct ...it is based on a 50AE..

Velocity figures are correct as well.. 210 gr bullet at roughly 1850--240gr around 1700fps...

Agree..to me the standard model ergonomics are not good for me either...also agree with the slimmer feel as Daryl suggests. I also have large hands but prefer the smaller thinner grips....which is why I really like the new Smith's M&P 2.0 and the H&K VP9..good ergonomics..really grippy feel vs the previous orange peel type feeling ..and they are thin...

Had a DE in 50, gave it to my brother. Hated the ergos and it was as accurate as a bent musket.

Pretty sure if they used one of the 180 gr bullets currently available it would exceed that velocity and then some..if in fact they are achieving 1850+ with a 210 gr bullet..

Would perhaps make a BIG splash with a 180gr. Sierra Jacketed Hollow Cavity!

The standard 8 3/8" S&W of 1972 would drive that one at 1,700fps. Was claimed it would not exit a 180pound man.

I alternated 275gr. Keith's with 180's in my 4" carry gun. LOL- I surely enjoyed shooting through the side (likely only water jacket) of the engine blocks of wrecked (demolition derby) cars with it. Those 180's (27.0gr. 2400) were tremendous at penning cars, end to end.

if you are old enough now to remember there was a forgotten "10mm" auto in the 1980s, the 41 action express
very similar to the 40 S&W later with but with a rebated rim for working in 9mm Parabellum pistols

this case was necked down and make the 9 mm Action express again 10 years or more before the 357 Sig

I think only cartridge collectors knowing this rounds today

the new cartridge could be an interesting round for the ar 15 , loaded with 300 grains bullet it must work like the 50 Beowulf

Why, when the .440 Cor-Bon offers the same ballistics and is out for quite some time now?
