1911 would have been a nicer "Carry" than my M29 4". Good article.

If I can't do it with 8 rounds, I shouldn't be doing it anyway.

Well, before moving up to my 1911's, I carried a "5-gun" for years...a 5 shot 3 inch .44 Special. I believe that unless you're a law officer or such, too much is made of magazine capacity. The regular Joe carrying a defensive pistol isn't likely to head into harm's way like an officer doing his or her job. Just my two cents.

In days past I might have agreed with you but in this day and age where a home invasion may involve 3 to 5 people I think 8 rounds could be pushing your luck. Practice quick mag changes under pressure of some sort.

Agree..

NOT uncommon anymore for 2,3 or more intruders/attackers going after one victim or location..power in numbers...

I work with LEO every week..some pretty amazing stories out there..

Personally feel it is very hard to beat the feel of a 1911 ..they have it over pretty much any handgun out there..but for protection of myself and family..I will take the higher capacity every time...plus another clip or two tucked in my jacket...

World is no longer what it once was..not to mention that crazy little thing out there called terrorism..who knows when a group of those goat f*#kers are going to go on a shooting spree at a mall or neighborhood near you???... Yes, I'll take the 15-30 round clip version instead.. less time reloading equals more time hammering bad guys..

Here are some interesting and somewhat related stories..

I also forgot to mention that with an increasing number of break-ins the intruder/s are hyped up on drugs and it can require multiple shots to stop them.

9 rounds of 40S&W in a 1911 platform. Maybe a good compromise?

Yeah - that would be OK, I'm sure, but not as good as a .45 on black bears.

That was essentially why the .45ACP was developed.

Experiences of U.S. soldiers facing determined opponents in the Philippines and British in Africa showed that if a human was crazed or determined enough, a .38 did not always stop them.

Exactly which is actually why I've chosen to carry a Glock 20 10mm still holds 15... normally carry that when in the woods or somewhere I can conceal it... having said that 124 grain 9 millimeter through the center of the forehead will get it done as well:-)

Of course, you could always learn to re-load more quickly.

Timed fire starts about 45 seconds.

The guy is simply amazing...

Having said that..IF I reload faster I still could do the same with a Glock and have 15 more rounds vs 8 no??? ..

G'day Fella's,

Thanks for sharing Ripp.
A good read and I have to say, the following sure made me laugh;
"but John Moses Browning sure knew what it was, even if he didn’t know what it was called."

As for Jerry M, the man is just INCREDIBLE!
