12guage solids or sgs

i do alot of pid hunting with my sxs and i use solids and sgs and they work great and i wanted to know if anyone else did the same and if not what people think

I have used solids (winchester type) on pigs but don't really like them, Brenneke type are much better IMO, but cost a hell of a lot more! Unless your SxS has slug chokes then the winny type just get squashed coming out of the barrel and you lose a lot of accuracy. SG's are fine too but can be improved on, I used a small fishing sinker mould to make tri-ball buckshot (like the dixie ones) and they worked awesome up close in my mates SxS.

Agree with tunofun on the solids: Brennekes are great, the rest don't rate!

I've used SSGs a few times years ago in the North Queensland 'J', never killed a pig dead with a single shot. I've also seen a couple of big Territory boars cop a load of SG and run off in the thick stuff never to be found.

They don't run away after a fair hit with a big blue-nose Woodleigh!

I have used SGs on wild boar and the effect is devastating,the animal drops in its tracks.I was recently presented with a box of hollow point solids(Remington)but am afraid to use them in my 12 gauge auto as it may damage the weapon.What do you think.

Has anyone used canister loads (one big ball and several SG's) on pigs? I always think the empty space in the shell is wasted!

Does any manufacturer sell cannister loads "one big ball and some SGs?" or are they just a handloading proposition?

BTW ,I have used both solids and SGs and I think I prefer SGs on pigs. The Solids (the ones which look like thimbles) definitley did a lot of damage when I got the pig ,but I liked have 9 balls spread out when snap shooting mobs up close. I sometimes put a solid in the right barrel and SGs in the left. Not that I had time to think about which trigger to pull in each situation
