8x56 bullet diameter-.318 or .323?
      #307831 - 16/11/17 04:27 PM

Bought a decent model 1900 M-S in 8x56. Do I need to slug the barrel or can I assume that it is .323? Have read some articles that made me wonder.

The 8x56MS are all .323.

From my experience even .323" bullets are often too small for some 8x56 M-Sch barrels. Here are the current CIP dimensions, minimum barrel and maximum jacketed bullet for the three similar cartridges:
8x57 I: bore/land min. .3071", groove min .3177", bullet max .3185"
8x57 IS: bore/land min .3106", groove min .3228", bullet max .3236"
8x56 M-Sch: bore/land min .3130", groove min .3268", bullet max .3248"

My 1908 slugs out at .314" lands and .327" grooves. I have not loaded for it yet.

Good to know.

For now, picr.de seems to work.
