New properties / approaching landowners
      #30709 - 08/05/05 12:07 AM

How do you guys generally go about approaching land owners about hunting on their property? I have been up in the NT for a few years now and wish to expand the areas I can hunt (I have one really exclusive spot but nothing else) but don't know how to approach land owners for permission. There are many people up here that hunt illegal on others land (read: poaching!) and I believe this may make it hard to gain trust and therefore freedom to use anothers land, so I am apprehensive about even asking! I need some advise on this issue!

Speak to the guys who run a servo or a feed store or who repair farm equipment. They can usually tell you who owns what, or who has complained about large numbers of wild pests on their property. It's best to try to make friends with them off of the property first.

Also some people who actively seek permission to hunt or fish frequently make the mistake of asking permission from someone who has no authority to grant permission. As a rule the only ones who can give permission will be the foreman/manager or the owner himself.

Richard.
