There are hardly enough superlatives to cover those two although my taste in engraving would be a little (maybe lots) more conservative and of the english persausian.

I reckon that producing such rifles incurs deep craftsmanship skills however I personally do not like engraved rifles and exhibition woods. In my humble opinion a rifle is meant for hunting - i.e. being used in rough conditions and delivering in the end the perfect shot, therefore I privilege simplicity i.e. perfect barrel and action, as well as nice - but not too much, wood. My dreams are for 'austere' Original Mausers or for pre-WW2 Mannlicher Schoenauers rifles, not for more recent glittering safe queens. But that's my opinion only!

I know the deep knowledge and proficiency of the H & W to produce first class hunting rifles.
But agree with Louis. I don't like all that baroque "embellishment". My dreams are first of all, the 1930's Original Sporting Mauser rifles! And the 1950-60 FN Sporting Mauser Rifles. Period!
I like how were made the fine pre-WW2 Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles, but don't like the M-Sch as a hunting rifle as much as I like the Original Mausers.....!

I prefer this from Hamlet:

Be not too tame neither, but let your own discretion be your tutor: suit the action to the word, the word to the action; with this special o'erstep not the modesty of nature: for any thing so overdone is from the purpose of playing, whose end, both at the first and now, was and is, to hold, as 'twere, the mirror up to nature; to show virtue her own feature, scorn her own image, and the very age and body of the time his form and pressure.

In my eyes, those two, although exhibiting exquisite craftsmanship, "o'erstep the modesty of nature." They are a showcase for the gunmaker's talents, but is that the purpose of gunmaking? They are decorative, and no doubt will grace the gun case of some wealthy patron, but do they combine form and function to constitute the deadly efficiency of a leopard or a shark? In my opinion, they do not. I prefer this, which relies on simplicity for its beauty:

I much prefer Dorleac's approach to rifle design.

Very well said Xausa - I never read Hamlet in English but your quotation exactly fits the purpose, and Thirdbite very wisely summarized in the end: pre-WW2 Original Mausers are our yesteryears' reference but recent Dorleac & Dorleac rifles are our new Graal!

It seems that you overstate somewhat!
Indeed, we can hardly compare the products of H&W with our own rifles.
H&W is currently, if not the best, among the best gunmakers in the world and their rifles are of exceptional manufacturing quality with much of their talent dedicated to gorgeous ornamentation and finish while we produce much simpler rifles whose main characteristic is their utilitarian side, an aspect we try to made with sober and classic elegance.
In a nutshell, our rifles are more made to be used and go hunting than to embellish the showcase of a rich amateur.
In any case the comparison is flattering…even if it is not entirely justified.

I believe some of us are not discussing H&W , but the embellishment of the rifles in concern.

We should not forget that the customer will get what he wants to have.
A couple they made for me with less embellischment.

I have seen many an embellished rifle tattered and worn. they don't all become safe queens. Not by a long shot.

While the first two are over done in the engraving and wood for my liking I can and do appreciate the fine craftsmanship that has gone into producing them. Simply outstanding. Yes my tastes run to the same as many others here fine rifles meant for work. If they were given to me, they would be put to use for sure.
