Well, 4 seasons of tree planting finally paid off, and I acquired myself a stopping rifle for any future trips to bear country - a Husqvarna FN Mauser in 9.3x62, made in '47 with a birch stock. Stock, as could be predicted, is cracked at the buttplate and needs repair or replacement and I'll likely replace the flat-sided bolt handle with one in the Oberndorf style, but for the price TradeEx charged, I'm thrilled with what I've got.

This is a pic of my rifle. Great quality and a great value. I have a '47 with the swept back bolt handle. Fine action is made by FN. You might want to install crossbolts before you fire it. This model is a 640.

Thanks for the tip, Wanabebwana. Reckon a single crossbolt in K98 style would suffice or would 2 be preferable for a caliber of this size?

That looks like above average wood for a husky. I would save it.

Definitely enough, 9,3x62 isn´t any magnum caliber.

A cross bolt that contacts the receiver recoil lug is difficult to install. Using two Talley type crossbolts is more practical. The 9.3x62 has a very stout recoil, more than a 180gr .300 mag in my opinion. I have installed a Pachmayr decelerator pad and will pick up crossbolts on next trip to US. I have installed 1/4" expoxied in bolts with head cut off and 3/8" holes filed with black epoxy.(like Win mod 70). I have owned 9 Husqvarna 146 and 640 and all but one did not have cracked stocks. Look for a hairline crack at the rear receiver tang.

Here in Finland (and Sweden too) is quite normal to add one recoil bolt and then epoxy bed the action to the stock (not glue). I have done that work many times and it helps to prevent stock cracks and if made in correct way, makes rifle more accuracy.
