I met Toufic my outfitter in Burkina Faso where I went in 2003 and 2004. Sad news, he has no guides anymore.
Diadama, my PH in 2004, was run down by a truck when riding his motorbike
Issa, my PH in 2003, had his head removed by a passing truck when he was standing on the berm of the main road.
In 2002, another of his PH was killed in a car crash. They were all good and very competent PHs. I missed them.
BTW, litle risk in the CAR, because tar roads are rarities

Elephants, buffalo, but it looks like road fatalities are the worst this year. And unfortunately on the road it only takes one idiot to get oneself killed.

That really is a shame. Right now, a P.H. friend of mine from Tanzania is in very serious condition in a South African hospital. He's being treated for a massive tumor in the lungs. I'm sure many of you know him. His name is Natie Oelofse. He started his P.H. career guideing for his uncle Jan Oelofse in Namibia back in the mid 80's. He's a former South African Army Commando, never smoked, and he's only in his mid 40s.
