I have a Husqvarna 640 with a FN commercial 98 action (no thumb cutout). I'm totally new to the Mauser world, and I'm wondering if this action is really special, as some internet scribes would have me believe.
I've seen Dorleac and others discuss some of the classic actions and don't recall this action coming up, so I'm trying to get a better read on it.
Appreciate any wisdom and experience you can pass along.
Thanks,
Wahoo

Husqvarna used both style FN actions, with or without thumb cut. Yours is the later version of m640 and not so uncommon. Very good action, indeed. SAKO used this same action in their High Power models. I have one custom rifle with that action.

There were some 98 as well as 96 style actions (94?), I seem to remember, that were used by Husqvarna for 9.3x57's & 9.3x62's. Tradeexcanada sold a bunch of these over the last 4 or 5 years.

Yes, in Husqvarna they called these m96´s without thumb cut as "strenghtened" actions. By the way, it would be nice to see some photos of yours rifle, wahoo...

Here are three Husqvarna rifles. Which action do you have?

Pics I promised. Chambered in 8mm. I much prefer the stock on my Husq 46. Edit: Pics should be fixed or at least better.

Jep, Husqvarna with it´s typical beech stock. This winchester -style rear sight is, again, typical for late modell 640. Good base rifle for custom work.

Yes, that was my thought (or hope, actually). But as I said, I'm new to Mausers, so I appreciate the confirmation that it's do-able.
