South Island Roar 2017

Good mate George Stewart sent me some snaps from his 2017 Roar hunt to show me what I should have been doing instead of whatever I was doing.

Nice - good weight - nice crowns. Well done!

The antlers similar to a Roosevelt Elk here on Vancouver and Queen Charlotte Islands. I think they also inhabit Washington State. I do not know about Oregon.
These elk, US and Canada, are generally larger, heavier animals though, than the red stags.

Well done to George. Say hello to him from me, Claydog.

Those red stag hunting photos, if they don't motivate you C, they do me. I love hunting red deer. I want to do it again. Only this week thing its about ffffing time I headed over to NZ again. Reds are now also far closer to home. A neighbour has shot several over the years. Legal access is difficult.

G'Day Fella's,

Some nice Reds there.
And it just goes to show, there are still some big Reds out there!
The gene pool, is still there.

Doh!

Actually Daryl, the biggest ones seem to be coming from the Lower Mainland these days, the upper Stave and Pit river drainages and from Indian Arm or Sechelt Peninsula.

Very difficult to get drawn, but for several hunts a 100% success ratio for those who actually hunt.
