Holy Crap Conway?
      #298963 - 13/04/17 08:13 AM

Daryl
Saw the photo in the 318 post. The photo was taken at Conways but that animal was taken at another location. All the background animals were taken at Conways but sometimes you just want a little more. Scored 123 and 3/4 from memory and was number 3 SCI for a while. Was a fun hunt and the Texan hunter was a real classic who I still keep in touch with. His wife got a real nice 107 pt bull which to me is a much nicer trophy. Have included a wider photo that shows the trophies from that week. Big week.

Photos reloaded onto the NE server and also displayed on NE facebook. NitroX

The horns on the left the fellow is holding has some weight to them.

That is his wife with the 107 inch set in the other photo. They were an awesome set. When we walked up on that bull he was feeding away from us and as soon as I saw the spread from behind my breath stopped and heart began to race. Still happens every time I see something special. The reason I love to hunt.

Gryph. Quite a bit.

A fantastic week for the couple. A week to remember for sure.

I too reckon the ladies trophy is the best. A very usually big "sweeper". Wide horns not scimitar shaped as the big scorers usually are. My biggest is also reportedly 107 pts but scimitar shaped, more usual in the coastal areas than inland where Conway's is. Nice and heavy horns too. Excellent.

The man's biggest head is spectacular. My guess is it is a steer? Or is it a cow? Will look good on the wall no matter what.

Look at the whole bag. Excellent. Seven buffalo and two scrub bulls. One per day. A lot of work for Claydog I think. Hopefully you had help.

Found this online.

Enjoyed doing a small cull on buffalo and other game on Conway's with George of Leithen Valley when they first purchased the Station and were setting up.

Life on Conways Station

By Alice Plate from Alice Springs 0870

Wednesday, 05/11/2008

You'll discover Conways Station nestled amongst the eucalyptus and the steamy-scrubland, two hours east of Katherine.

That's where you'll find Morgan and Nicole Lorimer.

They're the managers of the station that runs cattle and a trophy buffalo hunting tourist attraction which sees rich hunters travel as far as the United States to pull in a prized beast.

"They mount the buffalo head basically, it's not really my cup of tea. So we prepare the animal for export, the skull, the hide and the horns, of course. They send that back to America for taxidermy."

She says a third of the property is developed for cattle.

"The northern two thirds of Conways is on the southern border of Arnhem Land and it's pretty rough and rugged country and it's full of buffalos, so they hunt in the northern section of the station.

"We do need to have them culled, the hunters aren't just having a fun time, they're also just doing us a bit of a service."

It's not about diversifying in tough times but about opening up a dramatic landscape to the rest of the world.

"I just love the wildlife and the landscape and the southern border of Arnhem Land is just amazing and I just wanted to share it with people. I don't think it would be suitable for everybody.

"Farmers are pretty busy farming and running cattle, looking after their places."

She says setting up the tourist venture took a little bit of negotiating with her husband.

"I promised him I wouldn't get in his way, so I've managed to achieve that so far."

John
Those two were leasing when the Stewarts bought the place and stayed on as managers. Had nothing to do with setting up the hunting as Georges family had been in the outfitting business for a long time in NZ. They made out in that report and in some other articles I saw that they did it all. George and his family did all of that side of things and the set up has come along way since you were out there. That couple in the article liked to take credit for things they had nothing to do with and have been a long time gone now.

Holy Dooley that's some big buggers in that lot!
No wonder your ticker skipped a few beats Claydog....certainly a beauty the one the lady collected!
There certainly is a very broomed head there amongst that lot, is that just from age or disease?
Some big scrubbers in there too mate, bet they didn't go easily either.
We're all envious!

Yeah, just saw the article and posted it out of interest. From 2008 so old.

When I was there in 2005 (?), George was organising the hunting and the manager and wife weren't interested in the hunting side.
