I had the pleasure of meeting Jerome at last year's Sydney shot show.

He insisted that I feel the balance of the 600 that was there. It felt surprisingly light in the hands for a 7.2Kg rifle, but it was very well balanced.

I can only imagine the weight of a 700, but I know that they were ready for it some years ago. Somebody has clearly "pulled the trigger" so here we are.

Stunning rifles, I was really impressed with their workmanship.

I'll get an order in eventually.

If that rifle is truly a .700 NE as the card says it is, it is well proportioned. Of course I believe it is as the card records. From the photos it does not look like a .700 to me. Lacks perspective perhaps with nothing to judge the size of the rifle by. Usually photos of a lot of 700's make them look like behemoths, but that rifle looks well proportioned.

Last year at the Huntex show in RSA I had the privilege to to handle the 700NE. It was still in the white. It is very heavy but well balanced. It is a beaty. I cannot remember the proposed price tag, it was a very large amount. The cost of 1 round was $100 at the time.

It looks to be a well proportioned rifle for a 700. Not many men out there who would be up to using one well I would wager. Good advertisement for the shooting sticks that managed to hold that monster up.

Looked like it hardly kicked - those guys handled it like beasts! Best video I've ever seen of a .700, and the only one of one actually hunting!

What's the price tag on one of these?

First things First - I am ignorant about the .700 and about Buffalo (I have Boddington's book but...) so I am asking not declaring. And btw I know it is far too much gun for me.

Did it take 3 shots before the Buff dropped? Are Buff armour plated or is the .700 (or the hunter) somehow not living up to its reputation?

I believe you are correct in the number of shots. I thought that was a bit odd. If I was marketing the virtues of an anti tank missile I would have shown it dropping three out of the herd with the first shot. Perhaps they were just being honest. Would be interesting to see where the shots hit. Also have to admit to some surprise at the small amount of recoil off those sticks.

The video is well done, imo and buff don't always go down with the 1st shot. Nice to see the 700 in the field

On the second buffalo shot you can see the wound when they move the carcase. It is shot well back from the shoulder. Assuming the footage is somewhat in sequence, when this one is shot the first time, it runs off and is quickly shot again with it looks like a rear hip spine shot.

I personally would have gone for a shoulder breaking shot rather than a lung shot on a buffalo standing broadside.

When they take a shot at an animal in a herd, it is not possible to say whether any animal is hit or not. They then show the excellent aerial fottage of a herd running with a large dust trail. Maybe the shot was done to scare the herd? Assuming the scenes are sequencial.

EDIT: Watching it again, I assume a buffalo is shot here, and then they follow it up? With the next footage being the second and third shots. The aerial footage MAY have been edited in for folm making effect?

Not possible to see where the first shot is on the first buffalo. A second shot spines it about half along the body.

Jean Verney-Carron says the rifle is fairly heavy. Maybe the reason for the very light seen recoil off the sticks. I noticed that as well.

Is that Jerome, the Verney-Carron master gunsmith in the video?

No wonder people get smashed so much in Africa, ever one but the tracker turns there backs on the other two Bulls after the shots & it doesn't look like he reloads either !

See this a lot in videos, hand shaking for the camera but the jobs not done !

Seems too far for that first shot on a herd with open sights for me also, I try to get my guys close like the second Bull, but would of got him to ditch the light coloured hat.

Nice looking rifle, should be a buffalo flating machine, good for Rhino, Hippo & Ele !

I would have moved well away from the shooter after the shot just in case he asked me to carry that rifle back to the vehicle!

Yes, that is Jerome,
I was invited on that hunt (must look like a good gun bearer) but could not make it.
I fondled the 700 or 600 at Dallas and whilst quite heavy, it was well balanced . Jerome also showed me their new Side lock .

There seems to be two separate hunts. The first takes 3 shots, the second 2. Both hunts seem to end with a spine shot just in front of the hips (thanks John you told me what look for). From an 'anti tank missile' (lol Claydog) that just doesnt seem right to me. 7000 ft-lbs or so of energy absorbed in the vital triangle and a wound channel of 1 inch at least - frankly I was expecting the bugga to run stumble fall and bellow that death cry.

It is a promo movie but honest enough from what I can tell so kudos to VC. But...a .700 - the shoulder cannon etc . hmm.
