Mick, lovely looking Bull and shot with that superb rifle. Well done. What was the temperature at the time ?

Viking, I couldn't agree more. I love the Woodleigh bullets, I love the feel, the look, the boxes they come in, the price and best of all the way that they work in the gun and on game. And you can ring and talk to Geoff McDonald any time if you have questions. I often talk to him at the BGRC competitions down here in Vic. and he just loves what he does.

Waidmannsheil.

Nice! Is that a C&H .318? What do you think of it? They've tempted me before.

Ash, its a William. Evans build/ Mauser. Very nice to shoot and carry, balance's nicely and Ive adjusted to the high scope with a different shooting style. Comes to the shoulder and points easily. The round is easy to load and shoots the woodies very well. Just loaded solids for it as well but haven't used them on game yet. looking forward to using it on buff during the dry. Cheers Mick

More pics in the Mauser section.

Nice old red bull of war!

Thought the thread was going to be about a knockabout .318 which would be very unusual in this age.

Mick, have you tried any lighter eg 180 gr projectiles yet?

Haven't found many .330 projectiles. Woodleighs are available and shoot well so Ill stick to the 250's. They are performing well on game.
Cheers Mick

Shame Mick that Woodleigh's don't come in .330" size yet, they're a lot better performer than ordinary solids. The Woodies (solids) will perform properly, regardless of whatever they hit, but without the wound channel the hydro do.
Might be a job for you Waidmannsheil to see if you can get Geoff to do a run of .330" Hydro's for Mick to try out for him in the field - nothing like a field test for him hey!
Certainly a nice one mate - just going to set the horns or get a bit of scrimshaw done?
Well done mate!

Excellent bull, beautiful rifle, great cartridge!
Any hunter would be very happy to score a bull of that quality, and to take him with a Woodleigh bullet from an Evans mauser chambered for the 318 WR, is about as good as it gets.

93, I will speak to Geoff when I see him at the next event. He doesn't come to every event as he lives about four hours away but I will be sure to mention it.

odd statement as Mick is using a 250gr. .330" now.

Daryl, 93 is asking about Hydrostatics in .330". The start of the sentence seems a bit confusing.

Humble apologies gents!
Yes Daryl I did stuff up, brain was miles in front of only 2 fingers typing!
Thankfully Waidmannsheil got what I was on about!
Let's hope they can be made for not only Mick's 318WR!

Both GREAT rounds.

Buddy of mine has a Lee 3-die set for reducing .338's to .330 for his 8x56R. They'd work perfectly in the .318 Rigby as well.
