Looking for Percussion Double
      #29092 - 08/04/05 04:58 AM

I'm looking around for a percussion double rifle. I'm somewhat picky so finding what I want is not going to be easy, but perhaps someone here has one that they would be willing to sell or trade.

I am only interested in rifle that
1. regulate with 3.5-5 dram loads (85-150 gr) of black powder.
2. European 19th century (preferably English)
3. have very good or better condition, esp. the bores and muzzles.
4. are suitable for at least .54 roundballs or heavier (preferably in the 60-70 caliber range).

I'm not real interested in the monster 4 bores and 2 bores etc. But a 20, 16 or 12 bore rifle would be fine. 10 bores are on the fence - can't decide. I'm also not interested in Pedersoli doubles - fine guns, but not what I'm looking for.

I have an 18 bore double Lang that is essentially a running roe deer rifle (1.5 dr loads). So I'm now looking for something that is similar but regulated for a heavier charge.

Thanks,
Brent

PS. The best way to reach me is at brentd@iastate.edu

Have you checked Champlin Firearms website?

Yes periodically. The one percussion double that I own, I tracked down from their website through 2 other owners and finally purchased. It is now #13 in their photo "museum" collection.
