Searcy's MonoBloc v. Chopper Lump
      #28862 - 03/04/05 09:52 AM

Ok, next week my Pop, Doc52, is visiting Butch and making some final decisions on his .577 NE. The question we now have is this:

Butch makes his guns standard with MonoBloc barrels, but offers Chopper Lump for an additional $4000.00

What should we have on the big .577? Is the MonoBloc OK? Or is the Chopper Lump worth the extra $4000?

Which is stronger?

Pros and Cons?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I would prefer the Chopper Lumps but that is me. Why don't you ask Butch which he would use if they cost the same amount? And why?

I think you would probably get the 4k back in resale.

Vintage guns with chopper lumps definitely sell for more, but on a modern double I am not convinced that you actually need chopper lumps, or that it significantly enhances the resale. Nonetheless, if you want a best quality rifle, chopper lumps are the way to go. Are you getting a sidelock?

Clark

MonoBlock was developed to cut down the cost of production. Chopper lump simply is more labor intensive and was the recognized way to manufacture "Best Guns". Is one stronger than the other I doubt it, it comes down to do you want it done the original way or the less expensive way.
