Would be really awkward for concealed carry..

Ripp I had a 2 1/2" S&W Model 66, great little revolver, but sure put out a flame when fired with full 357Mag loads. Reckon that nice little Kimber will do better

I like their rifles, the ones I have had in 84L and 84 are great. Just sold my M84 .260 Montana as not using it (for shame) but kept my 84L 30-06. I already regret selling the .260!

I think Kimber made fantastic rifles when the Warne Brothers owned it, but went down hill incredibly fast after they sold out.

The handguns are all from the post-Warne period.

Kimber is a town in South Australia if people do not know it, and the Warne's were from here before moving to Oregon where firearm manufacturing was cheaper.

Edited to add: After the sale of Kimber by the Warnes, for a while I think the company stopped making rifles and instead made handguns, later reintroducing rifles. Later the "Super-Americana" was reintroduced (I believe). I don't know how it compares or not to the original excellent model of the same name.

Jack Warne sold the original company and it went broke. Restarted by converting Mauser '96's.

To be honest, their original rifles were hit and miss. I think the current crop is the best, although I would have liked a large caliber BGR '89 I think they were named.

Been through Kimba, Jack's one time home, driving from Adelaide to Ceduna when we moved to Perth in '87. Was a nice little town and I thought of the Kimber rifles then, having owned ones in .22 and .22WMR.

Prior to starting Kimber firearms, Jack worked with Sportco.

Cheers, Chris

Did not know this about the history either..

Agree with the above..think the latest long guns are the best they have ever done..in the last few years I have not met up with anyone that has had issues with them...guns are like cars..some people like Fords, some like Chevy's...

G'Day Fella's,

Not sure iirc but I think Jack Warne owned Sportco and they made, .22LR (Model?), .22Hornet and .222Rem (Model 33 ?) rifles. Iirc, they also made the Model 44 single shot (7.62/.308Win) target rifles, under license from Omark in the US. Again, iirc, the Sportco factory was located in Sth Australia but not at Kimba itself.
After this, they packed up and moved to the US, and as mentioned above, the rest is history.
Apparently Jack Warne liked the name Kimba and named the US business "Kimber (of Oregon)", after the town of Kimba, in rural Sth Aust.

Forgot to mention, I also own a Kimber model 82 in .22LR.
It has a beautiful walnut stock (Californian Claro?), and shoots better than I can.....like One Raged Hole 5 shot groups, at 50 meters (with the right ammo).

Hope that helps add to the story.

Doh!

I bought a Kimber Montana in 338 Federal maybe 7 years ago. It shot 4 inch groups at best. Sent it back and they rebarrelled it in about three weeks and shipped it back. With the new barrel it's close to MOA. I picked up a Sako Grey wolf in 338 Fedral for peanuts a year later and had it stocked by MPI to my LOP 15.5 inches.

The Sako was so comfortable I did nothing with the Kimber until I decided to turn it into a Mannlicher. I had a laminate stock made and mounted NECG open sights. The barrel was cut from 22 inches to 18.5 inches. It's. Super cool little rifle but I've never actually hunted with it.

The bottom line is the first barrel was terrible but they made it right fast and that's what really counts in my book.

What an ugly rifle.

Quote:

I’ll be honest: I first saw the Kimber Hunter at the 2016 SHOT Show, and I was concerned; in bolt-action rifles Kimber is very much a premium brand, and I wasn’t comfortable with the concept of “dumbing it down.”

And Boddington agrees then tries to spin it as a plus as they probably paid for the article ...

How to destroy a 'quality' brand name with a ugly rifle ...

I have 3 and have owned 5 and they all shot exceptionally well. Two 270s, two 06s and one 6.5 Creedmoor. All sub-moa at 100.
