I have ordered two of the new Montana 1999 Profesional Hunter Modle. They predict that they will be manfactured and shiped next fall. Thw action will handle any round between ,375 H&H and .505 Gibs. The bolt face options are .534, .604, and .648. I plant to hunt Africa and Alaska. One or both will be open sights only. I would like some help with cartrige choice. I have allways wanted a .460 weatherby, but the .416 weatherby, .505 gibs, .500 jeffry. .495 A Square or 500 A Square are also interisting. Also how heavy would build them, I don't want a muzle break. Thanks

bjlooper

Welcome to NitroExpress.

I believe the Montana actions you speak of will be produced once 400 units have been pre-sold. The last time I was on their web site the number was around 240. By next fall do you mean 2006?

As for weight with the mentioned calibers, I believe CZ weighs their new 404 Jeffery and 450 Rigby at 10.5 lbs and the 505 Gibbs at 11.5 lbs with a mercury recoil reducer. Double check on their web site as I may be a pound light.

A properly fitting stock will be an issue as well. Currently my biggest rifle is a 375 H&H but I'm sure other members with experience will have something to say.

I just double checked the CZ's and the 404 and 450 are 10 lbs and the 505 is 11 lbs.

Personally I think the 416 dokota beats any 404 or 416 out there, the weatherby included. Also the 450 dakota is very impressive.

Personally a .375 and .458 would make a fine double battery. I'd chose the 375 dakota or 375 weatherby and a 450 dakota or a 458 lott.

With the 458 Lott you can use 458 wichester ammo in a pinch and with the 375 weatherby you can use 375hh ammo.
