I have not seen any reference to this cartridge on any of the boards anent hunting or big bores. The 460 G&A was a current item in a recent post. I think I ran a search in the past on the cartridge and came up with no posts.

The 460 Van Horn is a 460 Wby Mag cut back about 3/8" to fit in a standard action. Gil Van Horn and Walt Abe came up with the idea. The idea was to come up with a .458 caliber rifle with more power than the 458 Win Mag and still fit in a standard action.

Bob Hagel wrote up an article for Wolfe Publishing testing a few loads. His test rifle had a 21 3/8" barrel. Using the 500 grain Hornady soft points he could push it to around 2,200 to 2,300 fps using IMR 4350, 4320, 4064, and 3031. He tried a few old Winchester powders too with similar results.

Made a mistake, the barrel had an integral muzzle break, so the effective barrel length was 19 1/2".
