Will the Lyman Model 48 "M" Peep sight work for a 96 Mauser action, or was there a different version made exclusively for the 96 actions ?? Thanks .

According to Nick Stroebel's rather definitive book "Old Gunsights", the Lyman 48 sight for the Model 96 Swedish Mauser is marked "48SMP". I have never seen a Model 48 so marked, so I would give a 48M a try. Holding one up to the receiver of a Model 96 should give a good indication of whether or not it will fit. I probably have one lying around you could use, if all else fails.
Thank you xausa for the response. I cannot say I have ever seen a Lyman 48 marked "SMP" . Fact is I am no expert on the Lyman 48 sights and have only recently become interested in them. Sounds like I should get a copy of the Stroebel book for reference. If any members have a Lyman model 48 "SMP" I would be an interested buyer....
