Look closely at the photos and notice the tusk poking out the other side of the buffalo.
Apparently the buffalo (the writer says "he" but it's obviously a cow) was sleeping in some bushes when an Elephant cow with calves came walking by and thus it was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Guessing the elephant has joined ISIS... 
Elephants are wicked...most hair raising hunt I have ever been on by far...realize they probably all are not..but we were chased on more than one occasion while there..definite adrenaline thrill...

That would of been something to see. How strong must the elephants neck be to lift the buffalo like that.

Wonder if the animal rights groups around the world are going to file a lawsuit against this elephant..or hold demonstrations around the elephants home for needlessly killing a buffalo..

To bad the locals did jump out with skinning knives and make steaks for the turistas.of that didn't break a tusk I wonder what would.

I thought that amazing as well, considering she only had the one. Makes you wonder how she broke off the other one - or perhaps only ever had one grow due to damage as a calf - or genes, after all there are tusk-less cows.
